I don't like anime clothing that has characters on it. It's just so tacky. I can understand designs based on what characters wore, but I never like actul prints of the characters.

Most anime merch clothing is...not very good looking. I've heard this complaint from a lot of people.

It's too much. Too much design. Too loud. Etc.

Ex:

There are more discrete shirts that are nice, but the stuff like this I don't think most want to wear, and that's why shirts like this sell best..

Obviously fashion is subjective, but I've heard the same complaint at least a million times, and I agree.

What do you think? I think minimal or discrete is best, but you may think differently.

No you're right, most anime-themed clothing is too loud and not very fashionable. Less is more, and subtle is great. If you're too embarassed to wear it in public, or don't want to because it's too glaring, then it's not a good product.

I think its all about how you pair these shirts and things with other things you wear. For example, I would not wear any other heavy patterned things with the madoka magica shirts you showed. Maybe throw a jacket in there and a cute hairstyle (for those with hair) and there you go! ^^

I suspect some of these shirts are either a) never really meant to be worn but are just collectibles or b) worn as a layer under another shirt kind of like those ties that have anime characters printed on the reverse side. "I love this character but i'm not brave / crazy enough to wear it openly" type thing.

I would never ever wear something that implies that I like anime.

Many of the designs lack good relief or negative space to really balance the artwork. Also the scaling is sometimes bad and shows a lack of understanding where shadows and wrinkles are likely to appear when they are worn. This is why more simple designs tend to be the best.

I'd say abstract designs of anime (logos, monochromatic art) are fine. Clothing with too much design in general are bad most of the time.

I don't wear clothes with huge designs, words, or brands on them. Makes me feel like I'm representing or making a big deal out of a brand. I also don't want to draw attention because of a shirt. Pretty boring sure but that's just how I am.

I do want a LoveLive shirt and am willing to wear it often... If only they weren't so overpriced and rare.

Edit: I want this one.
