NOTE: When I first posted this, I didn't know you could say "PedoBear" on here. That's why I originally posted the plain word "Bear". Lesson learned.

:vicx: On my new blog, I brought up probably the most aggravating and disturbing topic that absolutely nobody wants to discuss at anime conventions. http://codenamesailorearth.weebly.com/from-the-desk-of-codename-sailor-earth But I think in this day and age, we need to be brave and seriously ask this.

Are there anime shows drawn by PedoBears?

Now for lots of titles, such as Wakakozake, the answer is of course, no. I think (for example) CNN and other news outlets have done a fantastic job of looking like idiots when they accuse this behavior out of "all" anime. But for other shows like PriPara, *ducks bottles* Chu-Bra, and maybe to a tiny extent.......... Sailor Moon SuperS, there are some scenes that cross the line between cute and creepy, and we ought to discuss that.

Please read my article completely before casting judgement, that way you have all you need for the discussion.

Also, when I say "underage" I mean it. As in "below 18 years old". I know a ton of fans think it's cool to see let's say a 14 year old in the buff, but those people are either still below age 18 themselves, or they're the weird people nobody wants to have punch with at the party. I'm 28. I have no need to see anybody below 18 in "that" way.

Personally, I think we need more shows like Toriko, Trigun, Golgo 13, I can't understand what my husband is saying and Wakakozake, which focus on adult aged characters.

Lmfao. I thought the same thing. I was expecting some bara in this conversation.

But to answer the topic...there's a lot of that pedo stuff out there. What to do about that....I have no idea.

Different people have different tastes. Although in general Japan likes to center things around high school, and to a lesser extent middle school.
Personally, if the story is done well, I don't care.

The age of consent varies wildly from country to country so from a legal standpoint I would default to the law in which the content was produced under. I won't judge content harshly there, all is fine outside of a select few.

From a biologic standpoint I'd say the age in the law also isn't too far off. Mental maturity is an issue, but I have seen people mature well beyond their years and far more even into their twenties that still don't pass that check by me. When taking history into account, the age accepted by society slips further and further back but usually no younger than twelve.

All this considered it is my opinion that this is not too abnormal.

I'm pulling this next part out of my ass here since I can't be bothered looking it up, but I wonder if we somehow started tying that age in our minds to coincide with school years...

Of course some anime artists are gonna try and appeal to lolicons. They make up a part of the anime demographic. Unfortunately. Japanese guys like younger girls. They have an obsession with purity. It's just how they are. I don't exactly understand it.

I'm struggling with the point you are trying to make. What it sounds like to me is something akin to supporting censorship and restricting artistic freedom, which is not a path I'd ever want to walk down. Overall, I'm completely fine with leaving things in a "to each his own" state...

Maybe, but I think it's less that anime promotes and more like anime follows.
Japan likes young girls, and is more open with sexuality. Whether it's the idols, or the magazine models, singers, dancers, voice actors, whatever, the media likes young, attractive, female entertainers and makes it nearly a requirement to sell themselves with their body. And this is normal and acceptable the same way we advertise beer with busty women in bikinis.
Anime's just one facet of that part of their culture. Censoring anime will just make anime difficult to sell, it won't lower the pedo level much.
And the point you're trying to make with cute = creepy can be drawn with some things, but in general, that happens because adult males seize what's designed for young girls and claim it as their own, like the My Little Pony phenomenon.
