There are many different kinds of love, I will be focusing on Basic Love

Basic Love is the love you have for your parents, your lovers, your friends, your pets and anything/one that holds meaning or value to you. It is different from romantic love, sexual desire(lust) and being dependent on someone.
Love in its most basic and understandable form is the special care we give to those who matter to us. It is a deep emotional bonds we share with those who make our world a better place. It is a powerful sense of empathy that unites people in such a way where their pain becomes our pain, where an attack on them affects us as well. It is often a dedication toward wanting the best for someone and willing to sacrifice almost everything for them. Love is selfless, not selfish.

Love is...the hearts desire to serve someone who is precious to you. To watch over them, to care for them.
- Yashamaru

However, love is not something guaranteed to last forever; it can fade away or be lost if not nurtured properly. As humans, we are prone to mistakes that can cost us the "love we thought would always be there"(unconditional love).
Love is one of the few, perfect things in our universe; and as such, one of the most misunderstood. Eg. We do not hurt the ones we love, when we hurt another, we STOP loving.
You do not love when--
You know what? I think I'll stop here. Define love in your own terms, be honest with yourself and fight the self-delusion.

What is love guys? - Love is an intangible concept that is universally proposed as an explanation for actions that lack logical sense, have logical sense, or forgo logical sense. Then again I'm pulling this out of a donkey rear.

How do you know if you're in love? - I do not know since I do not believe I have ever experienced being in love. I feel like I have seen love, avoided love, and re-enacted a perceivable notion of love, however, I do not believe I have ever been consumed by ze' love.

Is there an age limit? - No, I do not think so. That makes me think... is being dead an age?

Do you have to be a certain age, a certain place, maturity, what is it? I do not believe you have to be a certain age, at a certain place, or in a certain setting for a person to incur the raging waters of love. I think it is all personal in consideration of what each of us as individuals perceive love to be.

Couldn't resist...

But my definition of love is: love is an irrational feeling, you don't know when or why it hits and the more you try to explain it the less it makes sense.

Love is a tree house: first you find a tree that's just right for your tree-house. Then, you carefully build an awesome tree house, one nail at a time. Then as the years go by, you continue to maintain it throughout the storms that damage it, because if you don't then your tree house will fall apart. Your tree house will change in appearance over the years, but what keeps it together is your dedication, loyalty, respect, and most importantly - hard work.

An emotion (deep affection) similar to admiration, that easily triggers other emotions such as anger, pride, or lust because of your expectations of that person. Ya, I know Elves is gone. Would you prefer Kongou?

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

Yes, that is a quote from someone else; I think it is more fun to see how many people know off the top of their heads than make it obvious with the citation. ;)

Now there are a lot of things called "love" for lack of a better term. This distinction is pretty important because of - for example - the physiological aspects of "romantic love" and how those can easily amount to nothing more than "lust". How that as well as other forms of "love" can degenerate into mere "possessiveness". Probably several other forms of "tainted love" (...it really was the best term I could come up with XD) that make it really easy to be confused about the matter. ^^'

I will add that it isn't just an "emotion" but an "action". A lot of people chase after "infatuation" and "lust", sometimes "satisfaction" and it blinds them to ever really experiencing the real thing.

As for me, I wait patiently (...okay often impatiently) on the sidelines, trying to understand and hoping to one day apply that knowledge. Well, with respect to "romantic" love. With other forms, I am too often failing. =P Kind of why I keep holding off on that one.
