Is fanservice really a bad thing?
Posted 9/8/15 , edited 9/8/15
I think we all know what it means, and maybe most of us immediately think of the same thing when we hear that word too.

However, I don't think its actually that bad.
Excessive fanservice imo is just unnecessary, and will only drive the current audience away or will have them loose interest real fast.

A little, a wouldn't mind. Like little shoutouts, or small stuff. (For example, The Cloud/Soilder 1st class DLC Schemata in Lighting Returns FFXIII).
I appreciate the thought/acknowledgement of the fans when having fanservice like such especially.

But if the fanservice is unnecessary, irrelevant, or just a cheap way to get fans interested, I don't like it.
I don't believe they should completely listen to fans, or try to always please them. No matter what it is (unless its maybe critism/complaints but that depends too imo).
Fans shouldn't ask for a season 2, sequel, or anything more really. Especially when its not needed. Like SAO having a season 2, or the crappy Disney sequels that ended up only having a DVD release.

My overall thought on fanservice is though is that I appreciate it. But when its trying to be relevant to the main plot, excessive, frequent, or obviously uses as a reliance for some decent sales at least, then I don't & I could easily find annoying.

As long as it doesn't ruin a key point or "feature" of an anime I'm completely fine with it.

I'm cool with fanservice as long as it's enjoyable and doesn't interfere with the show's plot, or if that's what they show is based around

To much of anything is bad for you (except anime), everything in moderation.

Great things can be done with fanservice, but often times the pandering comes at the expense of the experience. Overall, if the fanservice exists and can be justified in universe then it is fine, but if it exists just for the audience, then it is more often harmful (as a general rule but some exceptions apply).

I think if its used in moderation its ok. It doesn't really bother me anymore I've just got used to it. But there are series that have so much I just can't stand it. I feel if its all the show is its really annoying but if there are other factors to the show I can deal with it

i agree i feel like excessive fan service just takes away its specialty idk feels like the creators are buying their fans with fan service. I don't mind a decent amount of fan service.
