I've had the 190 proof Everclear. I chased it with the 150 proof variety. Instant heartburn and no more drinking the rest of the night. Highly do not recommend.

My friend handed me a bottle of vodka to chase one of my pills with. I thought it was water. It was even nice and cold in an almost-new water bottle that looked sealed. It was unpleasant but probably weak compared to an Everclear surprise.

Well, I guess I'm okay with vodka shots, but there is no way I'd sip on vodka. That's what I had in mind when I imagined someone having a drink straight.

Honestly as long as it a vodka of any quality it goes down smooth as hell.

Now tequila makes me puke even if its the first shot of the dam night

My understanding is that vodka is frequently consumed neat in Ukraine, Belarus, and Russia to name three places. If you've a high quality vodka that goes down smooth this is fine, but I really can't recommend trying it with the bottom shelf stuff. The flavour of discount vodka is too powerful for me when it's neat, so I mix that with fruit juice or cola to avoid becoming nauseous. I have a similar problem with hot sake, preferring to drink it cold for that reason.

Good sake should always be enjoyed when cold or at room temperature. Hot sake should only be old sake or sake of lower quality, and it should be enjoyed with food.

Ever had shochu with hot water? It's a decent winter sipper. 2:1 ratio of hot water and shochu usually does it for me.

I have low tolerance. </3

I prefer screwdrivers (Vodka + orange juice) over vodka straight.

When my friends and I partied 5 days a week we would do vodka shots. Along with all the beer and tequila . . .
We were kind of hard core.
One of my friends managed to stay drunk for an entire month... although I think he did it with MacNaughton Whisky . . . mostly...

A good vodka goes down smooth like a good sake . . . it is better cold.

I'll do shots of vodka but i don't really buy the good stuff so I am not that interested in drinking it strait. My sister likes her vodka strait, Russian Standard and Grey Goose are among her favorites. I prefer spiced rum.

A recent favorite: 2parts vodka 1part Kahlua 1 part Bailey's (like a white rusian but with irish cream instead of normal cream or milk)

beer-wise i like porter's and stouts (dark stuff) and pale ale when its hot outside.

I can drink vodka straight, but it's no where near my drink of choice. It's a hell of a lot better than soju, though. K-dramas can romanticize soju and verbal abuse all they want, but the romanticism doesn't make either good in real life.

And for all you potential beer mixers, the best beer mix is a beer float. A darker beer like a stout or porter paired with ice cream. A delicious way to inebriation. Maybe not so common outside of Portland, so DIY.

Because from a flavor standpoint... Vodka is one of the least desirable alcohols available. It does not have much flavor and It tastes a bit like rubbing alcohol. Where as Your scotches and bourbons have more complex flavor profiles. Because of Vodkas lack of a defining flavor it makes a perfect mixer. Strong fruity or sweet flavors balance out the hard alcohol flavor. Where as your bourbons or scotch flavors are going to over power any type of mixed drink. Plus the purists would have a fit if you waste good whiskey in a mixed drink.
