I enjoy listening to anime music; however, there are restrictions and limitations that will not allow many anime music to be sold outside of Japan. Other than iTunes - Japan, it is quite troublesome. Most anime music has to be bought through expensive CDs outside of Japan; meanwhile, MP3 is becoming more of the norm. The internet connects the world together but why put restrictions? I would like to support anime music singers rather than support piracy.

Please discuss your thoughts.

I back this idea 100%.

Japan needs to broaden their horizons when it comes to their (very well oiled music industry).

I usually download my anime music off of youtube to mp3.

I'd love CR to start doing this. It's hard to find unaltered full songs that are used as anime OPs/EDs outside of japan, most are nightcore'd on youtube or on illegal websites. They'd make a ton of money if they had the ability to sell music especially from Japan

Music industries death is inevitable but Japan is actually a place that clings pretty hard to CDs so its one of the few places that the music industry can still turn a profit. I doubt they will jump on the MP3 bandwagon but thats a good thing cause I think listening to anime soundtracks is kinda stupid and is a sign you need to broaden your tastes. Its a bad thing cause I cant get a copy of Boris Pink anywhere for cheap..

Nope, the reason why is you're not actually supporting the artists directly. You're in fact supporting the record label, which then gives the artists a loan of sorts that they end having to pay back. The real money comes from merchandise and concerts over cds/mp3s.

We need to stop the record labels from controlling things, they have way too much power over the music that goes out. We need to start using more sites like Bandcamp which allows you to pay what you want to support the artist directly.

Adding mp3s here wouldn't do much to cut the costs, CR would still have to pay, get licenses, ect. It's not like streaming where you pay so much to allow people to listen, it's completely different system.

Just because people listen to Anime music doesn't mean they dont listen to other things as well. I have a broad taste in music and probably listen to more genres than anyone I know personally.

Yes I would gladly pay money for anime cd's or mp3's I mostly use itunes and they really don't have a good j-pop, j-rock, and definetly anime soundtrack selection. They do have some but not a lot though. So would definitely like to see crunchyroll carry cd's or mp3's.

Japan wouldn't choke out the rights. They don't think the west or international buyers will give them enough money for them to invest time in selling and distributing their music internationally. Like really. A small handful of stuff from JP will make it into the iTunes stores in the U.S. but it's not like kpop, it's not as "popular" so companies don't feel the need to let the int stores have the rights.

They still rely on cd sales a lot there, as someone said. Japan still sells physical single CDs and albums all the time. They're just… kind of behind. And cling to their rights like a child clings to their favorite toy.

Ouch, good information; however, information that I do not want to read. Perhaps, Crunchyroll can work out some sort of deal.

True, but if only they look at how much money they are losing to piracy. It is dumb.

Mp3 is a good idea, with donations available to the artists. ;D

Crowd sourcing is a huge part of today's economy

Shyamalan twist: I have the cowboy bebop soundtrack loaded on my Ipod

My first statement was admittedly rather hyperbolic but I do tend to find that there is a vast group of people into anime who solely listen to anime soundtracks and that is a travesty to me.

As you said even regular iTunes doesn't even have a lot of it due to Japan wanting you to pay more for music, I could see maybe streaming music type of system but downloading is more than likely out of the question.

replace the crap mp3 format with the much better aac format, and i'm in.
even better if they could offer a lossless format for sale, though that will never happen (we dont even have lossless on itunes)
