Probably one of my favorite games this year is the new installment in the long running Metal Gear series. It takes after Peace Walker in terms in gameplay and definitely doesn't feel like a main installment, however, this doesn't make the game bad at all. It's really fun and I'm enjoying my time with it, I hope others have played, and if so, what do you guys think of it?

(You should totally add me on PSN so we can play MGO in October!)

Beat the game on steam.

In love with it as well. Long time mgs fan and gotta say i hate knowing that this game is set in 1980s since we know about big boss's future. It would have been awesome to have big boss as the main character through every game. And on a side note im pretty sure ive already cracked the ishmale code and know who he is (maybe) wont give away any spoilers, plus i havent even finished it yet!

I haven't put a whole lot of time into it yet, as I'm only on Mission 4, and I bought it on release day. But it has reminded me how much fun it is, to try and sneak past enemies, and using the environment to my favor. So far the only thing I miss are the hour long cutscenes. I don't know why, but MGS is the only game that I don't mind really long cutscenes.

Loving it- just got to part 2 today. Am I the only one who found the very first battle against Sahalanthropes TERRIFYING?? Seriously- that was the scariest giant robot I've ever had to deal with........
Building up Mother Base and FOB's is pretty cool- although it seems to take a hell of a lot of resources to get the fourth platforms built! I never seem to have enough fuel resources.
Also, got a volunteer in my combat unit with a higher rating than Big Boss. A Lady soldier too! ^_^

I haven't gotten a whole lot of time to play comfortably, to be honest. I have a lot a school related duties and boy are they frustrating me. I usually make time to play, but still feel the stress eating away at me from the back of my head, but I've made some good progress... sorta. I'm on Episode (Mission) 19 with... 31 hours in the game? But I kinda regret a good chunk of those hours as I could have put them into maybe studying for my exams for better scores.

And that first

That battle with Sahalanthropes freaked me out because i was able to sneak a walker gear out and didnt know what to do with it to get it back to base haha also agree with sleepchon on that one ;). Anybody else finding the dog more annoying then useful? i cant get him to wait without following me 5 sec later

I think the reason Sahal is so freaky is because it stands fully upright- like, if you look at previous Metal Gears they're all kinda.... crouched? Standing upright makes it look more human, with a straight back..... That's just scarier, for some reason. :/
DD's awesome for marking enemies, but damned if he doesn't get annoying at times. I actually lost my bond with him a little because he got in the way right as I was shooting at someone.....

I actually use Quiet more than DD. She's got an "appealing" design and she's really useful if not downright overpowered at times. Give her enough time and she marks EVERYONE in an outpost and can draw the attention of the outpost giving you the perfect time to strike in their stress. I'm actually really impressed with how great of a character she is. I try D-Walker out quite a bit too since he's got such a "Metal Gear" design. He's useful for brute forcing missions and has a cool aesthetic to him. I wish the PS4 had the Custom Playlist feature since there's definitely some great songs I'd like to play while capturing outposts like "Weird Science" and Spandau Ballet's "Only When You Leave".

I used DD twice and just got annoyed with him, the only mission i use him on are wandering soldier mission since hes good a tracking form a distance. Then they usually just put him to sleep lol i also find the horse the best method of getting around since u can sort of hide with him...

Who the fuck are you?
Not a main game?
The last game in the canon of Metal Gear Solid, the only Metal Gear Solid game to come to PC and on STEAM, the very last game directed, produced and created by HIDEO KOJIMA DOESn't fEEL LIKE A MAIN INSTALLMENT?! ARE YOU SERIOUS, DO YOU EVEN KNOW HOW LONG THIS GAME GOES FOR????

How many hours have you put into it?
What part of the story are you up to, how many bases do you have, have you rescued the puppy, have you expanded your base?

Really.

Could have had more story but the gameplay kept me interested.
Would have been better if the last mission was put in.

Well, I can definitely see how someone could regard it as a main part of the franchise, but sucking up to Kojima because he's Kojima is blatant fanboyism. I've spent about 30 or so hours, I've many bases, I've rescued D-Dog, the Kids, I've expanded my base, and I'm currently on the repetitive string of missions in Africa including the terrible escort mission. I'm not saying it's a bad game, but it changes the formula to the point where it doesn't feel like a main-line game, much like Peace Walker. It's not BAD, but it's definitely not what I expected. Repetitive missions doesn't quite = good game quality, regardless of how long the game goes on for. The open world doesn't have much to do outside of spread-out outposts that provide almost NOTHING except emblem pieces and occasional Side-Ops that take 10 minutes to reach from one-another. It's definitely better than MGS4 in every department, but I really miss the classic Metal Gear Solid formula of linear game design. It's not bad game design if the gameplay favors it, and I personally think the interactive cinematic gameplay of Metal Gear was very much complimented by the linear level design so long as you were given several ways to clear floors, rooms, and jungles.
