Technically all my life as my Dad was a huge fan of Speed Racer and the "Americanized" dubbed anime shows way back when (Kimba the White Lion, Starblazers, Battle of the Planets, Robotech). The first time I knew them as "anime" though would be when I watched the "Robotech" shows (Macross, Southern Cross and Mospeada) in their original Japanese language unsubbed/uncut/unedited. From that point on I realized I was an "Anime Fan".

I don't know. I didn't know the difference between Japanese anime and Western Cartoons... so maybe around 20+ years? it was that long ago ^_^;;

About 32, mainly due to the fact that I grew up in Japan for a good chunk of my childhood and then continued to watch it even after my family settled in Washington. First shows that I remember watching were "Dr. Slump Arare-chan," "The Kabocha Wine," "Urusei Yatsura," "Tongari Boushi no Memoru," "Little Princess Sara," "Candy Candy," "Mahou no Yousei Persia," "Asari-chan," and a ton of Fujiko Fujio shows like "Paa-man," "Obake no Q-Taro," and "Ninja Hattori-kun."

Let's see. If you're talking about full time watching anime, Since 2010 when Highschool Df The Dead was airing.
If we're talking about not really knowing, I believe since I was 4 or 5 with Pokemon, Sailor Moon, and Digimon. And I guess Shin Chan if we're counting that, but that's up for debate.

Chronologically I'd say about 45 years. (1969 or 70 for Speed Racer in the US) But seriously? I'd say from the mid to late 80 with Star Blazers that I liked till I realized how badly it was being cut up for the US version. I guess my 2nd rebirth as Otaku was around 2010 or so.

25 years. It all started with Dragonball Z when I was just an 8 year old.

Funny thing, that I realized just last night, though. Of the thousands of animes that I've seen over the years, almost 90% of them have been in only the last 8 years. That's just how much the internet changed anime availability.

Being an old timer, I can remember when the only anime I could see was what they played on TV. It would be like finding a hidden treasure if you found a video store in the area that carried a small selection of anime titles. And then Netflix came out and started carrying anime and it was like Christmas. But, that was nothing compared to the advent of online anime pirating. Pirate sites were everywhere. There's still alot around, but not like it was at first. Heck, I remember when Shinji and CR were the biggest pirates on the web. The rage Shinji caused when he took CR legit and cleared out all the illegal content, LOL! Now, you can watch practically anything free and legal. Man, how times have changed.

God...I got old.

Can't give an exact date but been watching since the 90's heydays with DBZ, Pokémon, Sailor Moon, Tenchi Muyo, Gundam Wing and the rest of the Toonami block. Became a bigger fan in middle school when Adult Swim premiered with their anime block but it was high school when I began seriously seeking out shows on the internet. I remember feeling pretty cool when Bleach premiered in America and I had already watched the whole Soul Society arc online months before.

So it's been well over 15 years I'd say with some breaks in between.
