I mean some anime have a negative stigma set about them just because how widespread it is. But personally, i don't think i've been criticized but by one person. They just can't stand slice of life shows and that fills up half of the catalog of shows that i've seen. But that same friend also gave a lot of criticism to Love Live! and i forced her to watch it and she hated me because it made her cry >:]

I have been criticized for watching Bleach, and even just watching anime in general. I am pretty new to anime, and bleach is one on the short list of anime i have seen, and finished. Some of my friends assume that i like it so much b/c im an anime noob and i could have done better. idc though it's one of my favorites. Sword art online was amazing too, but so far no one has griped about that one yet =p Heck, i don't even watch anything dubbed so I hoped i'd get a bit more credit lol

Let's see, let's see....

I've been called a childish, idiotic wannabe anime fan for
liking certain mainstream shonen series, One Piece in particular.

I've been called a hipster for liking some of the less known stuff,
Kaiji in particular.

I've been called a 'sheep' for liking some of the
classics from my younger days, Cowboy Bebop
being a biggie.

And, finally, I've been called a pervert, a sadist, and
a gore fan for liking the Higurashi: When They Cry (Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni) sound novels,
mostly by people who saw like, three episodes of the anime (which I've never watched)
or a gore compilation on youtube.

The point to take away from this is that for every genre you like, someone will criticize you.

When I used to rent from Netflix (seen them all :p) My Uncle would asked me what movie I get, I told him I got Animations, and he said "What are you doing with those, those are for kids.. 3 year old" I started laughing.. I told him its not Bug Bunny or Micky Mouse Cartoon, its different.. and his reply was who cares :p.

I think he just upset that I didn't get movies he like :p.

Not surprising at all. Your poor granma... She must secretly hate you but doesn't want to lose you because you're all that she got and that's probably not saying much. I saw her yesterday and she's so lovely.

Yes, and only by other anime watchers. You know how some people consider it a "crime" to watch and enjoy anime that they dislike.

My brother knows i'm a feminist (as well as a liberal), and since he leans more to a conservative side, he calls me a hypocrite whenever I talk about sexism or sexist politicians (like Trump), sice i've mentioned some funny perverted stuff from ecchi

Some people get on me about the fact that I love ecchi anime, especially those of the harem variety.

A lot of my friends argue that all of that distracts them and makes it hard to enjoy. To each their own I guess, I'll just sit here and enjoy the boobs thanks very much.

Not really, but I remember watching Sailor Moon at my childminder's house, and then introducing my brother and sister to it, back home. A very long time later, like, a few years, we were talking about shows we had introduced to one another, and I remember my sister somewhat jokingly ripping me for introducing them to the girliest show, out of all the shows we'd introduced to one another. That's probably the closest I've gotten to being "criticised".

I explain to people that "Frozen" and "Toy Story" are anime just like everything else I watch.

When I was a teen, my parents would hassle me because I watched Sailor Moon, and they felt that cartoons were for children. Yet, sitting down to watch Looney Tunes was ok. I remember pointed that out to them.

As an adult, I like a lot of things most women don't like. Like, I really, really like "Kodomo no Jikan" (minus the ending). I've received some interesting comments from close female friends, all of which are usually along the lines of "She's a minor". But then, these are the same people who like Card Captor Sakura, and there are two very similar relationships in there...so...
