I mean who doesn't? There are going to be their genres that you just don't watch with friends, even if their anime fans as well because they might just be those types that are into only specific genres and brush off the rest.

Nope, but a friend have express his opinion about not liking Naruto just as I have expressed mine on how many episodes it takes to defeat one person or make a spirit bomb on DBZ and we add our over-exaggerations to it, but it is all in good fun.

I don't get criticized for watching particular anime, but I do get a bunch of gruff by not liking certain ones. Because even if you can logically defend your viewpoint you're "Just a Hater" and shouldn't take it to seriously.

For loving Sword Art Online, even if mostly for Aincrad.

For loving Black Cat. Probably the Anime I've watched through the most number of times.

I'm definitely somebody who is not a big fan of the "out there" or "distasteful" stuff that comes out of Japan but even then I don't think its my place at all to be criticizing somebody for what they like. As long as its not bringing harm to somebody else then..I should be minding my own business and focusing on my own life.

Its a shame that bringing up the word "anime" in most conversations can cause quick rejection when there are plenty of amazing stories that have come out of Japan. I'm normally not a big slice of life fan since they all come in rather..strange sizes but "Your Lie in April" has made me respect the genre much more.

On a personal level, I haven't since nobody around me knows anything about anime outside of the Miyazaki stuff. But on an online community, there have been a few shows that I have been criticized for watching, though I am quite understanding why. They are called guilty pleasures for a reason in that they are crap on an objective level, but on a personal level there is just something that resonates with my personal tastes so much that I couldn't care less that the majority doesn't say it's good.

But if I had to choose a type of anime that I can expect backlash for watching, it would most definitely be harem anime seeing that they are common and the majority are there simply as marketing tools for the source material and the otaku fetish, but some of them are well-made, while others have characters that make me want to watch them.
