Without proper terraforming research, anything else related to space colonies becomes irrelevant.

I don't think there will be any terraforming, it's not very realistic. We'll build habitats.

Why? Because we might end up turning it into an amusement park attraction?

Of course we would.

Well… if craterface is there…

Yeah a moon colony is a bad idea

What we need is a sun colony.

I think a moon colony is the first step before mars as Nasa can get supplies to the colonies of the moon quicker than mars. That way they can learn what works and what doesn't and what needs improvement before making the investment on mars.

I think some people in this thread are confusing a moon colony for a moon base.

From a strategic standpoint, having a base on the moon shouldn't be too difficult. It'll just be a large expansion of the international space station. Turning it into a massive research facility (or a military base for when we eventually colonize other planets and have wars in space) isn't an unrealistic expectation.

A colony would be a different matter. A colony would have be massive and be able to support ton of people just going about their daily lives. The moon is no place for casual business. Save the colonies for actual planets like Mars.

And having Moonbase Alpha wouldn't be too bad, if there's a chance we'd run into Maya.

We're going to destroy the moon like we're destroying this planet. Remember the aliens from Independence Day? That's us

Well, we are already leaving germs on the moon that are actually surviving. So much for earth being perfect for life.
