The family who owns them are renowned breeders. "Show dogs" or dogs from what are considered to be "champion breeders" go for extremely high prices. So they probably can afford to feed them, but they live a very humbled life, the island doesn't have much in the way of modern utilities and living there- its apparently quite modest, they might have decent living arrangements but they live without things like AC & normal plumbing. they're on an island far enough offshore- that any utilities, IF installed - would just be knocked down during a severe storm.

It's pretty interesting to read about life on a rather small secluded place like the island in the vid, but even though it's rather pretty and pleasing to the outsider modernly a lot of people might not want to live there. It's vast, it's near empty and largely uninhabited with a small residential community, nothing else really goes on, it's the kind of place I'd like to VISIT or be at temporarily but not LIVE in. I'd rather have electricity and internet. I'd go see the Saints for a period of time if I ever went there, if they even allowed it, skim the place a little bit more, then leave. The dogs really are the main attraction to the island unless you're into feral sheep or secluded tech free life. Well, the dogs AND the scenery.

That sounds awesome. Sounds like they're living their dreams. My mom always had black labs (her favorite breed of dog) and they do eat a lot, I can't possibly think how much a Saint Bernard eats. I do remember my grandma telling me when my mom was around 8 that they had bought couple of rabbits for easter. She later kept them in a pin in the back and care for them. Suppose to been my mom's responsibility. lol But they end up with over 200 rabbits. They just got rid of them for free to people that wanted them.

If only they gave out these Saints for free. I would take about five.

Off the coast of Vancouver Island, in British Columbia, on the island of Lasqueti, there is a breeder by the name of "Tikki Smith", owner of a mass amount of Saint Bernards. In this video, the forty two saints can be seen in a forest, Tikki's son toddling around them. Their audible breathing really does sound like that of a saw or a helicopter.

My first thought goes to… well, can you imagine the amount of POOP?

That is a kid that will never have to worry about strangers or getting lost.

Wow! Thanks for sharing this piece with us. This is awesome. I'm not familiar with the area, is it always green? I love the terrain. The moss intermingle with the trees, beautiful. I would also like to visit. I don't know if I can be without utilities for long especially internet connect. But if I had solar panels I could recharge my hotspot device ~ maybe.
