In my experience the food quality depends on the community/school.

I have went to schools that was in a generally wealthy community where the food was great and I have been to schools that are not as fortunate where I wouldn't serve the food to my dog...

The rich schools served things like chik fil a sandwiches and pizza from local restaurants so yeah I would eat there.

I never ate from the poor schools...because it was crap.

I enjoyed the poorer schools way more then the rich schools filled with rich pretentious entitled kids regardless what food was served.

I used to eat it up till sophomore year, i got tired of their food. Elementary- middleschool there werent much choices, it was mainly a main hot meal or a sandwich from the cafe. Usually the food is really bad quality and I hated eating school lunch, but I didnt have the time or knowledge to bring food from home. Highschool has allot more choices theres a salad bar, premade salad, sandwich, fruits, main meal, wrap station. Although it was a whole lot better than middleschool, the food quality was pretty bad. Most of the time I dont eat lunch, I just buy and and take one bite and i'm done. Now I just bring a lunch from home to school. There was this time in freshman year though, I was eating a wrap that the school made and when I was eating it I felt a hair on my mouth. Regardless to say I stopped eating school lunch for a while..

I was poor so yea it was either that or nothing. Elementary through middle school was the same menu randomized foods from burgers, pizza, chicken and rice, fried chicken, and fish and bread. Although there was always this holy grail of food that came once every blue moon, known as calzones(They were really small and we got 4 total), these were delicious almost every kid loved them. You could buy extras if you wanted but I really couldn't. One thing I remember was that every time I drank the chocolate milk it made me feel sick, in retrospect it was sickly sweet.

In high school things got a bit different there was the home cooking line, the asian food line, burger line, and my favorite the taco bowl line. There wasn't much variety in high school so I just picked one I liked which happened to be the taco bowl line and ate that every lunch for a whole year. Then I got sick of it and started bouncing around from line to line. In my junior year I started bringing my lunch since if you showed up late you'd be in a line for 3/4ths of the lunch period.

I liked the variety elementary school had.

I used to eat school food. Technically, I still eat dorm food from time to time, but that's a whole 'nother animal. I used to be a really picky eater, so I only liked certain meals. It got better in high school, partially because I got less picky, but also because the food was better. Out high school got the lion's share of the school district's money, and it showed.

Never do, and never will, I always bring a lunch. The lunch lines at my school are terrifying. Its a small school, only like 40 people per grade with grades 9-12th getting lunch at the same time but its really slow. And you should see chicken tender day… Last week we had it and it took an extra hour for food. So my friends and I just got to chill and talk for an extra hour while waiting in 6th period for everyone to get their food.

Grandma made bento for me to bring in elementary school, but I began to get meal tickets in junior high and high school that so she didn't do it anymore.

I always had double chocolate milk and pocketed many packets of saltines to keep as snacks.

In college, I did not really eat cafeteria food beyond the first few months of the first year unless I absolutely didn't have time to go anywhere. The food at my college wasn't bad. Three of the biggest dorms each had their own cafeteria so we could just go to whichever one was serving the best food. I usually saved the money on my card to visit convenience stores.

Yeah but they sucked and you had to get in line, and there was meal tickets, and priorities and what not.

I much preferred having my own lunch, which I did have most days

This guy. British celebrity chef. Starts going on about school dinners being unhealthy, making schools all around England switch to "healthier" meals. Which usually consists of shitty sloppy boiled carrots and spinach. Before that I was happily eating my chips and pizza curry sauce combo, or giant spring rolls.

At least where I am, it isn't 'cool' to say the food is gross. It really is awful. The bread is stale, we have that super subsidized frozen pizza, the meats must be made of soylent green, and the vegetables are obviously the way overcooked frozen kind, There have been insects found. and I remember a few people getting sick to the stomach after eating it. At least the tater-tots are good.

School lunch isnt the best food ever but it's not as bad as everyone makes it out to be.

That depends wholly on where you go to school.

I had to transfer schools a good number of times in my past, so I've gotten a good taste of the spectrum.

Some schools have it good, like to the point where I still find myself craving it now and again.

&other schools have food that literally tastes like cardboard.

Most of high school I didn't really eat any lunch.
Just light snacks and drinks.
