A vast, barren wasteland that is rumored to go on for mile after mile after mile. But no one knows for sure, since anyone who goes in nowadays never comes out, and anyone who ever did is dead now and no one remembers their tales. It used to be full of essence pools, but the hunters emptied them all, and now all that's left is many small, empty holes. Dangerous creatures that have been turned into shells of their former selves due to lack of Essence roam here. It's advised not to even go in.

"The Wastes...such a dreary place." Francis Blackthorn, merchant and essence hunter extraordinaire, said as he slowly led his caravan through the barren wasteland. It has been months since his journey from his home and he never regretted his decision ever since. It was a fruitful time for him. He traded with numerous groups and individuals, heard many interesting rumors and tales from said groups and individuals, successfully fought off numerous bandit groups on his own, and collected more beast for his growing menagerie. He gazed upon the great expanse and found that it was indeed gloomy. "A dead land for a dying race. The world deserves better."

He turned his sight to his four dire wolves pulling his caravan. He was proud of them. Great companions on the field of battle and when the nights are extremely cold and bitter. During his first week of travel, he gave them names. Nala, Aela, Rex, and Laius; his four faithful companions. He couldn't help but laugh happily. He felt like a proud father when he first found them and raised them as his own. He felt joy when they wanted to be with him forever. He felt them intimately when their essence mixed with his own. "I'm so glad you're here with me, my children." Happy howls were the response of the four to his declaration.

After a few hours of traveling he spotted a figure at the distance walking towards...nothing. That baffled him for a moment. The closest town would be due west of his position rather than the east. This guy would kill himself walking further in the wasteland. He sighed softly. Blast his heart for helping someone in need. "Oy, stranger! You're going the wrong way; the closest town is in the other direction, not there. You're just walking deeper into the wasteland..."

Coming from the other direction on the road, Victoria sat in her carriage. People always state that there's no essence here, but have they really checked? because of her power, Victoria was excellent at finding essence, not that her skills were made public. Victoria simply found bits of essence sometimes, and her father would sell them.
However, this road grew to be exceedingly difficult to experience. It was blisteringly hot and the road was bumpy. Perhaps she shouldn't have gone on this journey. Then, in the distance, Victoria spotted a man standing in the middle of the desert like a buffoon, and a caravan heading towards her carriage. How curious.

Squall turns his head and spots the figure yelling at him, he notices his caravan is loaded with wares along with the dire wolves pulling it and thinks to himself "he is either a merchant or a salvager, either way i shouldn't drop my guard" he slowly moves his hand onto the hilt of his gunblade. Then notices another carrage approaching them "just my luck... to possible enemies and I'm down to my last blast cap. What diid you say stranger?

Leah looked at the scene before her from afar. "Looks like that stranger is about to make some new friends...." She kept watching, interested in what would happen next. She didn't have much interaction in her life, after all, so something that caught her eye was a pleasant change in the way her day was going.

Victoria's carriage reached the two strangers. She decided to act as if she were out for a ride and ran into them. (which wasn't far off from the truth) "Excuse me, sirs. You are both on the property of the Mauve Crown. May you state your business here?" It seemed the proper thing to do, as the daughter of a high-ranking official within the Mauve Crown.

Francis looked at the man and the woman inside the fancy little carriage he usually passes by from time to time. The male was, in his humble opinion as a merchant, an idiot for venturing out in the waste without a bloody map. Seriously, who doesn't have a map in this day and age? As for the little princess, he mentally snorted at the thought of stepping on a faction owned land. No sane person could own land here, it's only applicable in the cities and towns that dot the land...and maybe a couple of miles away from said cities and towns too. Bandits roam the land no matter how thorough the factions secure their borders, rabid beasts stalk by day, and Feral Ones, those abominations he kept seeing from time to time, roam the blasted wastes like flies to a carcass at night. But still he has to tip his hat to those two in front of him. They survived the wastes for a good amount of time, but he's a bit skeptical of their survival...even if one of them would refute his assessment.

After his scrutiny, he flashed them both his salesman smile and said, "Well, in order of appearance, you sir are going the wrong way. The closest town is at the other direction which I am currently heading on to. As for little miss I'm Francis Blackthorn, merchant extraordinaire. I'm just passing through, selling my wares to any and all who can afford them for my motto states, 'If you want something, I probably have it!'" He didn't tell them both his other profession. He didn't want any of them getting the wrong idea now. He slowly dropped his smile, his body was relaxed and alert at the same time. "Now, I've introduced myself...may I know the names of those before me?" He asked pleasantly.

As he said this, he couldn't help but feel as if someone was out there looking at them. It wasn't hostile that's for sure; but one can never be to careful.

Taki up on a hilltop stares into the distance only to hear people yelling in the distance. Taki grabs his sword, backpack and wits and goes to investigate. Being cautious because he knew these lands well but hoped the yelling was from friendly people. He started in the direction of the yelling only to see someone else looking down at them (Leah). However he didn't know them so he quickly avoided her, for he thought this could be trouble.

"A trader you say? Interesting." She then turned to the map-less man. he is certianly foolish. "The trader is right; I come from a town down this road, One that used to be called Redwood Town." How strange these people are.

Francis turned his gaze to the little miss in front of him. "Ah, Redwood Town...such a quaint little place, in my opinion. Has the town changed, little miss? It's been half a year since I last visited..." Francis said as a pleasant smile formed at his face. He really did wonder if things have changed in that little town. Maybe his friends, the exotic dealers, are still present there. 'I better check up on them if they have acquired a new selection for the Menagerie. If they're there, I hope they're open for a little bargain battle.' He added the 'Menagerie' after a few months of leaving his home. It was inspired by his ability and he discovered that many people asked him if he deals with animals or people. Seeing another market he could exploit for profit, he did just that.

He couldn't help but sigh in delight. If they're there, it would be a lot more fun to stay at Redwood Town for a week just to catch up and trade. 'Animals are easy to acquire but healthy nubile slaves are far too difficult to acquire without their assistance. Besides, some people want one, and I barely have stock. Hmm, maybe I can buy 20 virile males of varying race and 20 fertile females of varying race for half price? Keep half of both for breeding purposes and sell the other half, hmm. Ah, blast it, I think the discounts agreements would be hashed out through a round of cards and heavy betting...again.

He was...is a respectable business man. Slave trading isn't something he was ashamed of doing. Besides it's in his complete business motto 'If you want something, I probably have it! If not, then I'll find it.' He has a reputation of being the best merchant to uphold after all. He has to have almost everything in stock.

As he thought of this, he could feel another pair of eyes watching them. This, in his most humble opinion, was getting annoying. If they were bandits, then he'll have to add them to his essence collection or his children's meal...unless they're pretty enough to sell, thus he'll have to place them at his special holding areas. If they're non-hostile then they should have shone themselves already. "You know little miss, I think there's something out there...watching us right now. But they have not made any moves yet, so maybe they're friendly. But we can never be too careful, noh?"

Little miss? Who was this offlandish man? "It is used to be called Redwood Town, sir. This entire area has been claimed by the successors of the great Mauve Crown. You'll find it is much more sophisticated now." The man had obviously not been in the area recently; despite his strangeness, Victoria mind her manners and should show him courtesy. (Father always loved traders visiting, she shouldn't scare him off)
As for the "people watching them" Victoria found it preposterous. She had heard it declared by the King of the Mauve Lands himself that the desert was barren and devoid of people, besides the occasional traveler.

"Ah, I see little miss. The town has indeed changed." Francis said calmly. Inside he was slightly screaming in despair. His contacts may or may not have moved out after the take-over. His supply was in danger at the moment and it needs to be rectified. 'Now I really have to pass by and see for myself.'

He turned his gaze to the young man and rubbed his chin in thought. He could take the young man for a simple fee, "Young man, I can take you there. Payment can be negotiated when we reach our destination."

When the offer was presented, the young man asked whether or not he had blasting caps for sale. After a few minutes of thinking, he snapped his fingers and said, "Wait here for a moment." Francis then dropped down and checked the back in he had a box of blasting caps. A couple of minutes past, and a few shelves and boxes later, he came back with a small box of blasting caps. "Alright, one box of high quality blasting caps. For payment...it's either you give me rare crafting materials, quality ingredients and reagents, high quality supplies, a pristine weapon, or precious gems and metals as currency. I have a policy not to accept currency due to the varying denominations and type of currency that exist today. Some people don't accept money and thus it makes it hard for business. I will only accept currency if and only if there is no other alternative; but I'll reluctantly do so."

Nera rode into the waste land on her horse, Fotia. When she saw the others, she panicked."Where did all these people come from?!" she thought. "I don't do well around others, but I should at least say hello." So she nervously rode up to the group, and quietly said," Umm, good day to you. Do any of you know where the next town is?"
