Why did they place the bomb in a regular police car?

Why did the police interrogate the kid without his parents present, which is against the law.

Honestly?

This case is just another proof that the children are being treated as criminals.

Here's an interesting article about the whole situation:

#1 Maybe they thought it was a trigger with no charge

#4 No really, police are allowed to question you without police present

That right there is the big question.
Isn't the first thing you do when a bomb threat is on campus is evacuate the school?
They never seemed to do anything that you should do when you think there's a bomb that can endanger lives.

But hey, the kid is famous now, and the authorities at the school have shown themselves to be extremely incompetent.

Been through quite a few bomb threats, never been evacuated.

Nothing illegal about those books, wanna borrow my Poor Man's James Bond?

I accidentally created a chemical weapon in class one time. Let's just say when you add heat to a reaction that doesn't need it, you can clear a classroom fast. And my sinuses were clear for weeks after that!

Of course adding heat to a reaction that doesn't need it is the best way to clean your sinuses! That or adding an acid to Potassium Cyanide. Best way to kill of an entire class... I mean clean the sinuses of a classroom fast!

If they didn't even think of evacuating the building or sending in a team of professionals to handle the alleged "bomb" clock, that means they didn't honestly believe there was a threat. In other words, they had no justified reason for suspending the kid or arresting him. I can somewhat understand being scared at first and detaining him AFTER making sure everyone is safe, but the actions they actually took indicate they saw no danger. Either they arrested a Muslim kid just for the lulz, or they are the most retarded police officers in the world if they honestly believed there was a threat and took no action.

Also, it's illegal for police to interrogate minors without their legal guardian present. Obviously you're not a minor so there's no reason for the cops to call your parents when you're arrested. A 14 year old kid on the other hand needs their parents present.

This is a very grey area. The answer depends on many factors: what was the nature of the questioning, was there imminent danger to others, was a school official present, was it mere general public protection questions or interrogation?

To be fair, this is the first clock I've seen that look like this. I'm not surprised people got the wrong idea.

Face it. the damn thing looks like a bomb. you see those things cases in movies. The "Clock" started making loud beeping sounds during class. the teacher asked what was making the nose. the kid took out the case and said it was a " homemade clock". but the teacher rightfully thought it was a bomb because bombs do look like that. it looked more like a bomb than a clock. when i saw the "clock " on TV i thought bomb.

the teacher, school and police did right. the police did not go far enough. they should have gone into the boys home and made inquires and searched him computer. I bet they would have found a lot of stuff on his computer.

face it. seemingly smart, nice genius kids do bad things. they can throw you for a loop. take the movie house shooter in CO. he was brought up in a good home was studying a high level of science. see what he did. and take that middle eastern guy in TX who shot up the military recruitment center. He was from a good home and he had a high education and got a good job which he lost because of his drug addiction. and take those eastern european brothers in boston. they were from good homes, one brother was a student at MIT. they made bombs from pressure cookers, all things and killed a lot of people.

so what's so special about this kid in houston? the teacher could have prevent a school tragedy.

Obama, Facebook, and everyone else pampering the kid are in the wrong.

people need to stop indulging kids.

that's all I have to say

It was overreaction, stupid on the part of the school and police, and I'm almost certain his religion and ethnicity had something to do with it. That thing does not look like a bomb, doesn't really look like a clock either, but if I saw that, I wouldn't assume it's a bomb, unless some context led to me draw that conclusion. If that thing resembled a bomb, then half the high school science projects out there would look like a bomb.

Wasn't that long ago we had to stop selling a model of tracfone here in the states because it was very easy to make into a remote trigging device.

Hell, look at the unibomber's un-complex bombs that look more like two year old playing with construction junk nailing cut-offs into toys with nails sticking out.

Bomb like this killed 3, wounded another 23.

OK let's be honest we all know that it looks like a bomb. I mean most of us have seen movies and played video games in which a bombs have been depicted like that. so they reacted naturally based on those depictions. I think if he didn't choose that design in the first place, he could have avoided all this mess. so I think it was his own fault. poor guy

Yeah, this sums up my feelings. If they thought there was a real threat, they would've called a bomb squad rather than just arresting the kid..

This isn't the full story.

The boy was being passive-aggressive with authorities, and the clock was in a suitcase, that made a loud ticking noise. This wasn't some grandfather clock or a modern day alarm clock. His teacher told him to NOT take it to any of his other classes. Eyebrows were raised during his English class. Would you disobey your teacher too? I wouldn't.

The kid is 14 and had just been arrested for a bomb threat. I doubt he was being "passive aggressive" with the authorities. He was probably freaking the fuck out cause HE WAS JUST ARRESTED FOR A BOMB THREAT.

I dont know what the stupidist thing is in this case the Racism, or the fact that an engineering teacher was dumb enough to think that was a bomb. Kid even closed it with a cable so it wouldnt seem like a threat.

The legality of a police interrogating minors without parents varies from state to state but a child can legally refuse to talk until his parent or lawyer is there. What happened in this case is he was not allowed to call his parents (which is illegal), and they were not notified until after the interrogation(which is illegal).

I think the difference here is that one has a transformer, 2 PCBs and a LED display form an alarm clock inside, the other is a pipe bomb.
