When the bus did a sharp curve, the old frail guy was stumbling as he went for a seat. I caught him as he fell but I felt a little discomfort on my ribs. It was a bad angle on how I caught him. This was the only face I could make as I reassessed the guy if everything was ok:ಢ_ಢ
Just blocking my rib pain, thank you.

Well, there's the times when I waited more than an hour for a bus which was supposed to be running every 6-10 minutes. There were the gropers to deal with (had to elbow one man in the groin when I was 12). Then there's smelly people which made me get out of a bus a few stops early. That's why I don't like using the underground that much. In rush hour everyone is packed like sardines and there's always a few who didn't shower/bathe. The worst position is being squashed next to a tall person who has his arm raised to hold on and you're stuck in his stinking armpit. Fortunately for me I made sure I mostly work local enough to not need to be in rush hour or that my commute is opposite to city centre therefore less people.

I have had lots of good experiences too. Quick journeys, good travel advice and friendly drivers. Even when I was in what was considered to be countryside in the Caribbean and we tried to get a bus or a taxi to the beach which took 4 hours. It was still a pleasant wait with lots of friendly chatty locals. Heck I recall one holiday we were on a bus in the countryside and it broke down. Everyone got out and the driver couldn't even assure us there'll ever be a replacement. I'd never known a bus or any vehicle to break down before. No problem, instead of the beach destination we wanted to go to, we looked at the nearby beach and went there. That got us a boat to a tiny island with a bird sanctuary there. We had a lovely day. Then there was the time we were in traffic gridlock on a main road for hours. It wasn't just the bus all vehicles were stuck. We just got out, went to a local fast food restaurant, had dinner and came back to get on the same bus which hadn't been able to move.

I don't consider my travel abroad to be complete unless I get to experience some form of public transport.

It's such a treat when a bus driver says, "Bitch. It's Christmas. It's on the house."

"Can we do the same thing tomorrow?"

"Nope. Only on Christmas."

Sigh.

the Beijing subways are no joke

there's a picture by the subway doors of blood dripping from a hand. as in, move ur hand or you'll lose some fingers. they don't have those body sense things. one my friends nearly got her finger caught.

A lot of things have happened on the bus. Passengers fighting, bus driver and passengers fighting, bus driver and other drivers fighting. A lot of really weird/strange things also that people have done .
Personally, my worst (and awkward/embarrassing) experience on public transport...

First was the time I was on the metro, I have this habit of shaking my leg it is truly an unconscious habit but I do it like all the time. Well this particular day on the metro I was shaking my leg staring out the window minding my own business when someone suddenly grabs my leg (really it was my thigh area) and I look up and it was some middle aged woman and she says "Stop shaking your leg!" I was so surprised that she grabbed me that I was speechless. I wish I could go back in time and tell myself to tell her something because that whole situation was uncomfortable she could have just asked me without the personal contact.
Second weird experience: I was on the bus to the metro station and it was a beautiful day I got on the bus and sat next to the driver we look at each and smile and make small talk about our day and the nice weather. Next stop an elder woman comes on and sits across from me, the driver asks her how her day is going and the woman says "it's horrible" and the driver responds "it must not be all that bad" to which the woman replies "yes it is the devil is possessing me." At this moment the bus driver and I look at each other through the rear view mirror and give each other this knowing look of "This woman has some issues" and then we both look at the woman the she started talking demons and devils and how she isn't crazy well once we got off the bus I made sure not to sit near her on the metro.

Aside from school buses I've never used any public transportation before, there just isn't that much around here. With that being said when i was in high school i did have a school bus driver high on pain killers, she was tripping balls. At one point she let a kid off the bus to "pick flowers" then she forgot about him and drove off leaving the poor kid in the middle of the road. It wasn't until much later till she got to that kids home did she remember he was left behind.

I've ridden the buses a lot in my day nothing really bad, but one time I saw an old man watching pornography across from me it was weird and awkward. I just sat there thinking, "wow your actually doing that."
