Probably never. There was a lawsuit, and sales were only okay in Japan iirc. Also the anime jumped ahead a bunch in the last 5 minutes and it would be hard to adapt.

Guessing it's one of those shows that's way more popular in the US than at home.

Sales were bad, and you can tell that it wasn't popular at all because they released all 12 episodes on 1 blu-ray box rather than splitting it up.

For what? Lawsuit was after he got caught tracing other people's work. It gets discussed a lot, and is usually cited as the reason there hasn't been one announced.

Sales were high in Japan, I stand corrected.. 8774 average according to the Ancient One.

Summarizing previous threads where this has been asked, including by me.

8,774 average and ¥359.1m gross is way above just okay in Japan, and the light novels sold over 400,000 copies in 2014 landing in the top 10. Financially it was a huge success. I also can't find confirmation or even news of a lawsuit.

Since then the seventh volume of the light novel series was published just this last July.

The bigger question though is why would the producers pay for another season, when they could move on and replicate the process and sales boosts with another property instead. That's why even successful anime based on light novels rarely see additional seasons, like SAO and Monogatari have. Those are so successful they beat out the competition with even sequel seasons, but that's rarely the case and shareholder funds are usually better invested elsewhere.

DEEN stuck their neck out making a second season of Log Horizon largely on their own dime (from what I can see) and while it did okay it wasn't a big success either. The return on investment can drop considerably for sequels.

Ah yes, I remember the tracing debacle.

Some of the claims of tracing are highly debatable, and some were valid. I did see that about half of the traced pictures come from the same artist. Honestly, Yuu Kamiya should had gotten someone else to do the art, like all other LNs out there.

I also don't think a lawsuit was made amidst all of this.

The tracing claims should also have no affect on whether NGNL will get a second season or not, as the tracing has nothing to do with the storyline or the anime art itself.

Get out of here with your logic, people want to hate on anime they don't like

No, but in all seriousness there are a lot of anime like No Game No Life. They don't get sequels, they just don't. Even if they do well, they have to absolutely smash the box office to get a sequel.

I'm still waiting for Hyouka to get a second season but again, it ain't happening. Might as well follow along the light novels if you're desperate for this kind of story. This is why I read books, they end, often times anime doesn't.

And then there are shows that make you wonder just how in the world they managed to get sequels... Like Diabolic Lovers.

I'm mostly interested in another season to NGNL due to the game parts of the series was fairly interesting. However, on the note of tracing, I do see similarities, but no blatant plagiarism. The poses are also different, only slightly, but I'd say it's enough to justify saying that it isn't plagiarism, even if some tracing was done.
