I don't understand how liking anime/manga is bad, somehow just for liking it you are a "weeb" or a loser. why?

In my experience, just liking anime isn't what constitutes a weeb, a weeb is one of those people that believes that

A. Japanese culture is flawless in every way because of what they've seen in anime
B. Only anime is worth watching
C. Wants to move to Japan because they like anime

You'll note that in each one of these, it comes down to what they've seen in anime. That is, I wouldn't call someone who wants to move to Japan a weeb, but someone who says, "Man I want to move to downtown Tokyo and eat sushi everyday," then they're probably a weeb. A weeb is someone who pretends to know a culture based on the cartoons they've watched.

The loser part, that might fit the bill more as a general insult for anime viewers. But then if you're concerned as to what people are going to call you for a hobby, that's your business.

Hey, as long as you don't try to say a katana is the best sword in all roles, you're a sensible non-weeb in my book.

Something I continue to keep learning while growing up is that you will never make everybody happy and that includes not sharing the same point of view. Yeah, anime is a common target for name calling but..who cares? If watching anime makes you happy then you just need to tune out the haters and enjoy life :).

The good news is that you are clearly posting on a site with people who share the same interests so you already know its not a lonely world out there.

Bullies always like to find easy targets who stand out. If you like anime when no one else in your area does then you are a "weeb". If you collect anime merchandise while most of those around you just like watching the shows then you are a "weeb". If you are into cosplay when the majority of those around you don't go beyond collecting merchandise then you are a "weeb".

Personally I've always ignored bullies and laugh later as I watch them struggle in later life. It almost makes me believe in Karma.

if you get offended by someone calling you a weeb then you really need to learn something called not to give a fuck. People will always continue to use the word in a offensive way as long as people get offended by it

Ever heard of 9GAG?
More than half of the community there despises Anime because every day there are usually posts featured perverted scenes from various series. Everyone says something like F ing weebs or something like that.
Btw 9GAG users are scattered all across the world so it would make sense why most of them would not like anime

Well to be fair it is surprisingly more versatile than it looks. I've seen people cut ice and pierce a harness of plate with them. Still, an estoc is much more well rounded. Let's not forget though that swords are best suited as a sidearm to back up spears and halberds.

When it comes down to it there's nothing quite effective as some pure blunt force trauma. Where's some kanabo love?

I've never been called one before but I don't think it would bother me. I would just ignore it, cause I like anime and I'm not scared to say that

Growing up I was insulted every minute of every day because of a medical condition I had and the effect the medication had on me. It gave me plenty of time to think. What helped me get through it was one classic rock song or at least the message it sent.

"Why don't you cut your hair?
Why don't you live up there?
Why don't you do what I do,
See what I feel when I care?
Why don't you be like me?
Why don't you stop and see?
Why don't you hate who I hate,
Kill who I kill to be free"
-Randy Scouse Git by the Monkees

It was written as an anti-war song but gave more of a message than that. Anti-bigotry, anti-conformity and anti-bullying all apply all at once. A friend of mine with similar problems took to it just as well and it helped him understand why the asshats treated us the way they did. Anything different they saw as the enemy. They were too lazy, dumb and useless to even try understanding it.

A katana is the best sword in all roles.

But seriously the best approach is to not care what people say. Any insult is useless.

If someone called me a weeb I'd call them lazy. I've been called meaner things.

You'll be into whatever, as long as it doesn't directly hurt anybody what's the problem? People can take offense and belittle you and in the end the only person's happiness that matters is yours.
