Look at all these assumptions. Not everyone on MAL thinks the same, that is such a childish argument. It's a great website to track your anime, and the reviews are fine. The best reviews show up at the top of whatever anime your looking at. The review number system might be flawed, but the reviews itself written by anime fans really helps decide on whether or not the anime is worth watching. Most of the time the reviews are pretty spot on. And there are certain reviewers who are known for giving solid non bias reviews.

Overall I think it's an amazing website, no offense OP but you just seem like a hater.

I dislike MAL simply for aesthetic reasons. It reminds me of websites I used to use in the early 2000's/one that I can make easily with my minimal experience. That being said I also find the website harder to use than it should be. I like anime planet much better, it looks good and I can find what I wanted to look up in about ten seconds.

Thought about getting a MAL before, but I'm just too busy. Although I did browse some of their old threads, and they had a lot of nice things to say about CR. A lot of them were members on both communities. Pretty interesting.

Crunchyroll's forum is the only place I feel truly comfortable. That's why I don't go anywhere else. So, I don't know how the forum of MAL is. However I really like its system for tracking anime series. After all, it's called "My Anime List".
Just ignore everything else.

I agree with this. I feel most at home with the community here in CR, but I do enjoy the tracking that MAL offers and I use the site. I am not near as active with the community at MAL. I try at times, but I don't perticularly enjoy the overall layout of the forums. It is harder to meet others as well.

With me, MAL actually lost my account once and accidentally locked me off the site for awhile (no, I wasn't banned, it just took tech support weeks to get back to me).

I agree with you, too, about the aesthetics of AP. I fell in love with AP first time using it instead of cursing it like I did MAL. I especially love how AP now also uses anti-DDoS detection/protection (something MAL could've used about a year ago). Oh, and the way AP links to CR, Viki, Youtube and Hulu to helpng you find where to watch legal streams and keep track of the eps you watch is fantastic.

Yes, I was going to mention that but wasn't sure if MAL did that too! That feature is fantastic and really helps because a lot of series I watch aren't always on crunchyroll. I especially like the "recommendations for you" page. I also checked out your AP through the link you have on your profile and wow... you're an anime watching god, true senpai.

I couldn't agree more and I think that the OP should use AniList instead.

Sorry to say but mainstream shows are usually mainstream for a reason. Just because you don't agree with what the majority of people like doesn't mean that those people's preferences are invalid. Studies have shown that a decision by an ameteur hivemind is pretty much universally better than a decision made by a single qualified expert. This holds even more true for something that is subjective like show preference. Keep in mind that people may have also seen some of the shows that are your favorites and not rated them as highly as you, you just happen to have tastes that are not the same as most.

Those people aren't really limited to anime fans though. Pretty much all fandoms have those type of people who like to go against the grain and disparage anything "mainstream" as garbage. It's just a way for insecure people to act like they're the smartest person in the room.

But yeah, I agree. Those people suck.

Nope, just a bored man with too much time on my hands, a sleep disorder and an addiction to anime .

I use it and like it. Sparse on forum interaction because that would cut into my anime watch time even if there is/was good people there.
Don't really pay attention to the reviews because I am capable enough to see whether an anime sucks duckbills or not. And anybody else with a solid head fixated between their shoulders should be able to too. (It's only those indecisive people that are swayed by peer pressure that would be negatively effected by this.) By the way, I gave Sword Art Online a score of (10)

I have never used MAL (I'm an Anime-Planet user). I have heard that MAL's forums are pretty toxic, but other than that I don't know much about it. As for reviews, there is no such thing as a truly 100% unbiased review. People will give a good scores the shows they like and give bad scores to the shows they don't. Even those that try to be fair (such as myself) will still have some bias in their reviews (though it won't be as obvious/in your face about it as fanboy or hater reviews). My advice would be to find a reviewer who is either in the "try to be fair" crowd or has the same tastes in anime as you, and only follow their reviews. And even then, it would be best just to use reviews as a basic guideline as to what to watch or not, but at the same time take said reviews with at least a grain of salt.
