Usopp is God Usopp.

How dare you diss him? You really want his 8000 followers to come after you?

Usopp is better fit for the role of protagonist than Luffy if you ask me. He has had some of the best character development in the series.

the thing you need to understand about Usopp is that his lies eventually come true

Pirates are attacking the village (chapter 23). -> Kuro's army really attacking.
A giant goldfish with poop as large as an island. (chapter 24). -> Dorry and Broggy confirmed it.
Country of Dwarf (chapter 24). -> Dressrosa arc confirmed it.
Wanted to see a huge mole in Kaya's mansion (chapter 24). -> Fight with Mrs. Merry Christmas.
A cerberus (chapter 40). -> Actual cerberus in Thriller Bark Arc.
The same as before, but this time a dragon (chapter 40). -> Actual Dragon in Punk Hazard.
Claimed Luffy's first bounty is his (chapter 114). -> Got his first bounty at 30 million berry.
A beautiful swordswoman has come with meat (chapter 458). -> Rebecca.
Has 8000 followers (chapter 72, 185, and 332). -> The Elbaf warrior, the dwarves, and all the toys that become humans again. We don't know for sure how many they are, but I guess it's pretty close.

I neither really like or hate Ussopp, but he can sometimes be the most infuriating character in the series even more so than the villains, but he also has his moments where he shines.

Usopp is more of the comedian of the group. He really can't take over as the main protagonist.

However I will agree that he has the most character development, and he still has much potential.

omg of course he's a straw-hat pirate
... i think its was a good idea that they didn't choose the crew all strong or it won't be funny

I think he's supposed to represent a 'normal person' out of the entire crew. Like, what a "normal person" would do/act like in those situations. Their whole crew isn't normal except for him and maybe Nami.

At first, I thought the exact same like you.
But now I think he's important to the crew just like how Brook is.
Brook is just a musician but also a swordsman... why do they need another swordsman if they already got Zoro. But in the end, to me, Brook's just a musician for the crew more than a swordsman.

At least he's not completely dead weight. To me, he's a strategist, listens to people's background stories of their problems, always helps out with the planning of rescue/fighting plans, fights/rescues where he can. Have you ever seen an arc where he doesn't do shit? He may wimp out at first but once the plans are put together, he does help out. When he acts like wimp though, he's funny as hell.

Last and more importantly, he's loyal to Luffy and the crew.

His lies and cowardly traits is part of who he is, its part of his strength too in some concepts. Sure, i do think he's kind of irritating some times when he just crosses the line of levels of cowardice, but still, its understandable and he wasn't raised by a hard boiled soon-to-be marine vice-admiral like Luffy or had a straight-on goal due to a close friends death like Zoro.

Do you really want a crew with all members that are straight forward and always serious? One piece would be kind of dull right? Usopp adds on to the comedic atmosphere on the crew along with brook, chopper, and the rest of the guys

His lies created his persona "God Usopp"
Perona's ghosts couldn't affect him because he was already negative.
He can be brave when the time comes, which is usually the most epic moments.
