I blame the liberals

I don't. Conservatives will certainly blame circumstance pretty quickly as much as anyone. Just because a kid had a grand life with conservative parents doesn't mean he ain't going to be a spoiled little bitch that blames else for his issues.

Heck, just remember where the phrase "Thanks Obama!" came from.

When I was young, in the paper I would read the letters to the editor, and they always had the quote "I do not agree with what you have to say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it". Other viewpoints were encouraged, even if it were only lip service.

Today - I may not agree with what you say, so I will call you names. If you are a student I will get you expelled. If you work I will try to get you fired. If you own a company I will do my best either through mob or technicalities to ruin it. Since you do not agree 100% with me I will do my best to bury you so that your words will never again see the light of day.

That and kids are never taught how to budget. They have no how to balance a checkbook. I had a co-worker last month say how disappointed he was that payday got pushed back due to a holiday weekend - I told him it was 30 years since I bothered to follow when payday was, if you know how much money you are making, it's not hard to build a small nest egg so a day or two is meaningless. We then discussed his credit cards for about 20 minutes, and he was astonished that nobody before had gone over just how much he was paying in interest, that he could pay to HIMSELF if he just brought down those balances.

Cursive.

They're taking it out of curriculum. Sad really.

I guess there's really nothing different between my generation and the current one tbh. There might be something with learning how to rewind VHS tapes, but that's just patience.

Oh and computers are super fast now, so no one ever has to deal with like... "loading" or also slow internet "dialup". So basically, if something takes longer than 1 minute to load, it's most likely broken. I remember when it was normal to wait 5 -10 mins to load a program or to open a website. Everything the new generation does is instantaneous now. So I guess patience might be something they'd have to learn.

RIP cursive though. But who needs to write anyway when you can type.

Cursive isn't useful in our society. We should have mandatory programming classes though in schools.

Idk. Writing isn't typing. Someday they'll stop teaching writing altogether and that's when our whole lives will literally rely on technology.

When you can't write a message without using electricity... you know it's bad

I hope this generation has a good STEM education so they don't say stupid s*** like Donald Trump (ie: vaccines cause autism) or the typical Republican's general ignorance which brings shame upon conservatives.
Kids these days also need a good course on government and economics. It's frightening and ridiculous how people latch onto nonsense touted by politicians. People are quick blame the president for issues everyone hates taking responsibility but they love to scapegoat without detailing any legitimate solution.

ONE BIG THING LEARN TO NOT BE BUTTHURT ON THE INTERNET. If your feelings get hurt by the internet you need some counseling

You're not the only one with a shitty life, a lot of people have a bad life and are going through difficulties like you are.

If you are being bullied, develop tough skin and dont let what others say get to you!

Also to not care what anyone thinks because most of the time most people dont care.

They obviously aren't being taught to pull up their pants. -.-

Also most young girls.. even middle schoolers think that showing more skin is fine. It's sad and they won't be respected. And kids need to be taught to be respectful to their elders.

how to defend themselves
there are numerous reasons why but in short its because your told when your attacked you should tell someone else and let them handle it don't do anything yourself in fact you get in trouble when you do something about it yourself which only tells kids to shift the responsibility for your safety to someone else which makes us weak as a society. kids are taught this but what happens if heaven forbid something where to happen in this country which required them to stand up and defend themselves they would probably just cower in the corner or run away and let evil prosper.
teach kid early to defend themselves and hopeful they will defend others later in life as well.

I made a thread similar to this 'what advice would you give to your younger self'.

For me this pretty much sums up what I wish I was taught, but wasn't as kid:

- How to get a JOB.. or start your own business or get on the property ladder to buy your first house, taxes ect..
- Learning to be content with life and to appreciate the small things, especially that you should work to live not live to work

How to deal with Stress and don't let anger consume you.. Don't dwell on it, next day start renew day.. yesterday is a past.. If she/he having bad day that day.

Just that I keep hearing stories about how teenager start shooting up school, they gave up on their life and take it out on someone because they were bully by some class mate of their at school.

Teacher just need to teach them self-control and learn to move on focus on the future and happiness.. Not giving up on life and focus on hatred.. Hate, negative is wasted of life! :(

They should be told how lucky they are that they're being well fed, got clothes on their back.. able to go to school.. Because lot of kid of their age are dying of hunger in other country, and they are in some building making shoe.. Hell, I remember reading about one country are feeding kids Heroin to make them come back for some more, in order for them to support that nasty habit they had to do some work for them like making shoe, digging some holes whatever dirty work they got for them.

Yeah... a very good one. I get bitched at a lot for trying to tell either side of the conservative/liberal divide that the rights that apply to you apply to your worst enemy and vice versa. You know, that whole "splinter in the eye"/"do unto others" thing...

STEM is only as valuable as it is rare. If everyone floods the market trying to make a fortune in STEM jobs, there's going to be a shortage elsewhere that will have value. Programming and computers for example. There's a *LOT* of people with formal education in this field but a lot of them get passed over for the kids that just "have a knack" for it. typing and secretarial skills used to be HUGE back in the day... Till the computer came into the household and virtually everyone adapted to it and learned to type relatively fast.

There's no magic bullet to make you loads of money. There's only fairly probable ways of NOT making much money. I'd probably try to teach my children them while also teaching them the social skills (which people severely lack these days) necessary to get ahead in the world today. (timeliness. Politeness. Negotiations. And probably how to charm and manipulate others as long as it was done with the caveat that those skills are only to be used for good.
