Why do so many people, when given the decision between two different diets, choose the dangerous fad diet?

Between one that's proven effective, safe, and realistic, and the other that's a blatant "fad" diet that's pushed like snake-oil and recommends eating in a way that's unhealthy and blatantly goes against everything the AHA & WHO recommends as safe.

Fad diets promise quicker weight loss. We live in a society with a mentality of "we want what we want, and we want it now", and companies realize that and take advantage of it but promoting fad diets in mass quantities over healthy diets.

^ this. Because you can't really diet and keep the weight off. To stay healthy you need to change your lifestyle, and people don't want to make that much effort.

This. There's really nothing more to add.

I'm going to be honest, all diets are bullshit. In terms of scientific literature no one can tell you what diet is "best" cause it doesn't really exist. It's like animegirl said they promise quicker results and to add they play on people's insecurities like wanting to look thinner cause the people promoting it make more money that way.

The best advice you can give someone is, "eat what makes you feel good, not just your taste buds but what doesn't leave you feeling awful an hour later." Biochemistry is extremely complex and context dependent, what might work for you might not work for someone else.

Which proven real effect ones are you even referring to?
