There are allot of anime's out there that are just as good if not better then some popular anime's that got a lucky hit when it came to fan base.
This topic will be about what your favorite anime is that you think is not on too many peoples radar and also you feel is better then some popular anime's out there

My new favorite underdog anime out there is called Overlord, i personally things its way better then a well known anime called Sword Art Online (not poking jabs at the fan's)

Overlord takes place in the year 2138 when VR games are booming. YGGDRASIL, a popular online game which is quietly shut down one day. However, one player named Momonga decides not to log out. As the game shuts down, Momonga is then transformed into the image of a skeleton as "the most powerful magic caster in the world." As world continues to change, with non-player characters (NPCs) beginning to feel emotion. Momonga decides on his course of action: Having no parents, friends, or place in society, this ordinary young man Momonga decides to conquer the new world the game has become.

Classroom Crisis is getting a lot of mixed reviews, but honestly, I don't see why it is; I think it's great. Yeah it's a tad bit forgettable, with a setting that could have been elaborated more (cuz it's pretty dang interesting), but overall it's one of the better sleeper animes out there of the summer season.

Atashin'chi was a really good show, but the issue is that it's either in complete Japanese or complete Cantonese/Mandain dubbed. It's really funny though, so I recommend you go try it out. Your Japanese skills should be good enough to understand some of it if you watch some anime.

YGGDRASIL?! The only place I've heard that name is in an older anime called Ah! My Goddess! Although I think it took some things from old nordic myths, so maybe I'm imagining a connection where there is none.

Cuticle detective inaba is my all time fav anime.

But it's not popular at all... it needs more boobs, imo. add some cheesy love story and a cute girl with humungous sparkling eyes... and it'll be popular like hot cakes.

too bad the director decided to stick to the main script.

Wakakozake great new show slipped in summer season late but really good converted me to like 2 minute animes very easy to relate to especially if you eat out and drink alcohol.

i dont think there is connections between the two, unless Ah! My Goddness! takes place in an VR-MMORPG game

Not sure if these are popular but whenever I mention these, people say they never heard of them
Great teacher onizuka, baka and test, the law of ueki, shakugan no Shana, gosick, ragnarok the animation, elfen lied, mushishi. There's a lot more I can't think of right now xD

The Legend of the Legendary Heroes really deserved a sequel in my opinion. I think it gets written off by a lot of people because of its name and poor choice of a first episode when there's really a lot of interesting things going on in it. It really is kind of like Game of Thrones turned shounen/seinen.

Rokka no Yuusha would be the most recent thing that comes to mind... I really enjoyed it a lot, but it seems to be getting terrible bluray sales, so there's probably no hope of a second season for that either.

No, but funnily enough, YGGDRASIL was a computer system in that show.
Also, what do you mean by underdog anime? Just one that isn't very well known?
