Just wondering...

As most of my e-buddies who watch it are not.
And since most people that I know of who even watch Anime keep it low-key.
So I though hmm.. Maybe there is a big demographic of Atheist fans out there somewhere.

So if you are Atheist. Can you post:
- Ethnicity and Age
- City and what part of the world your from
- What or who first got you into Anime
- Also if your friends or family also watch Anime. Or if your closet Anime fans in public.

I haven't really seen any topics of secular nature, so I figured I'd make one. Granted I stole most of the content from another thread.

I'm an atheist. I'm an 18 year old white female that resides in California and not I'm not a closet anime nerd. A crush got me into anime in middle school and my brother is also an anime fan.

From my experience and observations, most people on the internet, or at least those that post on gaming or anime forums, tend to be either Atheist or Agnostic. This is of course myself included so I'll fill out the little questionnaire.

GITS is a great introductory.

Not really anything but I side with most Atheists/Agnostic more than set religions.

TV got me into anime, when it was common on Saturday Mornings
My mom occasionally watches some of the movies that are more PG generally, no friends that are heavy anime watchers, a series or 2 at best for the most of em.

Well okay, I'm an atheist but I'm not an "Internet atheist" (the kind that seeks out any words of faith in a forum so they can debunk it and argue for days on end)... I always found the idea of an all powerful creator who just took to ignoring us (omnipotent yet impotent) to be a tale somehow less feasible than the one about the guy with a beard that gives every kid a present in one night...
I am 33 and white
I'm English and from North London/ South Hertfordshire
When I was 12/13 I was lent a copy of Akira by a friends older brother, which he said I had to watch or he wouldn't lend me Terminator 2. I never looked back, and spent the 90s watching bootleg VHS copies while that same guy translated (badly) what was happening in a bid to learn Japanese
My wife watches occasionally but doesn't really care, my 3 year old son claims it's boring and I have no friends. Not one. Well maybe one

the only thing I believe without proof is that haruka haruhara is an alien (seriously FLCL is weird but it's not like she has a UFO)
white, 26
I don't expect anyone to know where welsh towns are, UK

if I look back far enough and ask my older brothers, we had old tapes of stuff like robotech and mazinga z. apparently when i was really young we lost mazinga z and I destroyed robotech
I usually watched western style cartoons, they were on pretty often, then the middle brother told me something awsome called dragon ball z was on, I grew up with that. as my brothers spent less time at home and eventually moved away access to the internet got easier, and anime was disappearing from TV. streaming, downloading, even trying (and failing) to improve resolution and sound to try and find a better experience for it. one of them I found online that kept me trying to find stuff I was into was FLCL my kind of crazy.

I did watch some stuff like death note and parasyte with the oldest brother, but parasyte seemed like I was forcing him to watch it.
middle brother lives miles away, said he'd think about watching AoT him and his son watched KLK. tried showing him a gag from shimoneta and I got the "hentai" treatment. not many friends, so yea I'm the only fan.

I thought I was for awhile , as I would go to church and thought I not have had any belief in what was preached whatsoever, but I'm not really an atheist, or an agnostic, even, because there is some belief lying within my subconscious that only lately I realized was there. I have nothing against atheism or agnosticism because I carried the labels for a while but now I don't think that is me at present, just a backsliding christian. Well at least an honest one with myself. I believe in an afterlife and such but not so much ghosts and all that jazz though.

I find that if I want to introduce someone to anime, something like Bebop is the best place to start someone off, rather than something as dense as GITS, if only because as much as I love the film, it's pacing leaves a lot to be desired.

I'm a atheist through and through however as I find the philosophy of buhdism to be on point I read a lot on buhdism and practice a type of seudo buhdism toaism. But there is no diety for that just a way of life where I try to choose peace and understanding over other choices. Just my way of caging the monster inside.
