personally I don't like it. only because they treat him like hes important. he can go wherever he wants but he doesn't need the royal treatment. it just shows me how commercial religion is in America and how dumb people are

Sounds like you are a little overly sensitive.... clearly he holds importance to some people, so let them swoon over his presence and go about your own business

There is nothing more dumb than your comment.

I understand that you just started middle school, and hate it how your parents force you to go to church, but that is no way to talk about people. About the pope; I myself am not a fan of him. He is too liberal.

He's important to a lot of people because of his symbolic status. It wouldn't matter who the pope was. I feel that he's deserving of all of the attention he's getting and security because you can't be too careful out there, especially with lone wolves out there.

1.2 billion Catholics in the world and you think their holy idol doesn't need protection in America? Laughable. Commercialization is the promotion of something to gain profit, so by your logic, he doesn't need to be treated importantly because if he is the religion is commercialized? We all know that the Catholic church is an enterprise that requires money, like anything else. This has nothing to do with Americans being "dumb". The Pope is as revered just as resolutely by any practicing Catholic.

The Pope is the (nominal) leader of some 1.25 billion people worldwide, thus far surpassing most heads of state and government including say the President of the United States. Even aside from that de facto position he is the de jure sovereign leader of his own country.

Also this particular holder of the office seems to enjoy a particularly good reputation so far.

So what's the problem here?

Well he kind of IS important. Anyone who has the sway of almost the entire Roman catholic population has great power.
