What you like and what passes for decent anime are two very different things. Try watching anime that suits the genres you like. I won't watch something like Steins; Gate because Sci-Fi just doesn't interest me. I'll watch something a lot less serious (Like Highschool DxD, for example) because I like cheap humour and gratuitous fanservice.

So, the shows on CR aren't as bad as you think they are. They just don't line up with what interests you. If you want Ecchi and gratuitous amounts of fanservice, I suggest going over to AnimeLab because you won't find it here on CR.

You are just lack in taste.

I wouldn't go that far. The difference is CR gets a lot of family level anime per season (mostly slice of life, romance, drama, comedy, lighter series) while Funi gets a smaller selection of more mature anime (usually mystery, horror, scifi, darker series). There are always series on each that standout. This past season on Funi it was Prison School, Gangsta, Shimoneta and Castle Town Dandelion among others. This season on CR we got Gate, School-live, Food Wars and Monster Musume among others. I'd say they both have genres they excel at.

First most of you are lucky to have Crunchyroll and Funimation to watch shows

I started with TV DBZ Poekemon etc ! I didint even had internet yet !

Once got cable then I had Cartoon Network / to watch anime late on Sat-Sun ( I cant recall if it was Adult Swim or not !)

Then came ON Demand with The Anime Network ( TAN ) Shows got uodated once a week on THUR-FRI. And if there were 10 shows you were in Heaven !

Then Funimation took the place of TAN ( at least for my cable) for ON Demand and at time I started using the Website ! I would say about 2004 ! Then if you had 2 or 3 shows new shows that was great but a lot of my early anime was thanks to FUNI / OnN Demand !

I first heard of CR in 2011 and joined / even at that time if they had 10 new shows a season that was great ! Again CR gave me a lot of just recent older titles to watch . Which is good because I would never had a chance to see that anime !

Now almost 90% new shows if not more are on CR / FUNI !

Yes a lot of animes could be better but Both CR / FUNI just had an amazing summer season !

Now if you want to ask for more Mecha that is a legit complaint but Gundham licensing is a pain from what I hear ! So thay may answer about the Gundham series !

For me the lack of good sci-fi anime is kinda sad ! I grew uo early on those anime ! But to blame CR is ridiculous they dont put out anime

A new idea by Funimation they are a big part of the Production Committe for Dimension W (Sci-Fi) with a lot of Tesla references ! Maybe you see FUNI / even CR get invovled more to bring better anime !

And one of the most obvious reasons anime / manga is for Japannese viewing not us although we are a niche narket for them !

My thoughts on the original thread and responses ( Not all ) but a lot

I, personally, hope it is kept out. I might be weird but think of Gate as more a comedy than anything else. I don't need/want more dark and depressing anime. Thanks for the information.

Crunchyroll tends to be the Sentai and Aniplex licences with TV Toyko adding shows that wouldn't get a physical release. To be honest I think that Sentai and Funi tend to have similar tastes in genres, but differing approaches. Funi seems to value a snappy premise and a big initial impact, whereas Sentai is prepared to pick up the slow burners. I could never see Funi picking up a title like Rokka, it feels too slow paced for them. Overall though, I think Funi has the bigger check book.

Overall it's been an incredibly strong season, but I've definitely found myself enjoying the Crunchy titles a lot more.

I can understand what you mean, it's just a difference in tastes of programmers. For me, as a fan, it's usually that I like a major range of genres. I've never spread myself over just a few. This season the 8 shows I mentioned all would fall into my seasonal top 10. If I was to take it further I'd say Shimoneta, Castle Town Dandelion, Food Wars and School-live would be my top 4 this season (in no particular order). I'd be hard-pressed to decide whether it would be Gangsta or Gate that would be the 5th show in that top 5. It gets to me when people compare one to another because it's a definite case of apples vs orangs vs grapefruits (Hulu for classic anime). Each has it's own strengths and weaknesses.

Step one: Look at CR anime that goes further than the front page most popular.
Step two: Click on a show that looks interesting.
Step three: Watch it.

You'll notice through this process that Crunchyroll actually has an immense amount of good series deep within the bowels of its catalog.

The anime isn't the problem here. I don't like the ones you like, I like the ones you don't, so I certainly don't see any problems.

We all have different taste. Don't blame the anime.
