I could not believe there was not a thread about the Manga on Crunchyroll, so I decided to make one!

This is such a great series and I would love to talk about past experiences of this Manga and how you all felt when reading this at the time! If you haven't read it, then I highly recommend it. Let us discuss!

It's a beautiful manga that deserves an anime remake.

One of my first series, started and finished it in middle school. Many memories from reading it, and I especially remember my excitement when new issues came out or to the library

It definitely deserves another anime true to canon.

Fruits Basket is life, man. I absolutely ADORE all the dark, psychological elements to the series and how each character has their own things they have to work through and how they start to develop and become better people through it. There's SO many different twists and turns everyone takes to overcome their personal struggles.

I could honestly go on a seven part rendition why Furuba is, I think, one of the best mangas out there. Starting with the fact it's character driven with everyone just trying to get through and cope with life, and I love, love, LOVE those types of stories.

In terms of these characters, Akito is my baby. And she deserves ALL the snuggles! I know a lot of people really hate her and the things she did, but I'm SO fascinated with her as a character and how she's able to admit her mistakes and make up for them. How, in the end, she wants to try so hard to make things right. Or at least, better. Which is why I'm writing a long-arc post canon fic about her, because I'm interested in who she is or could be behind all the anger and sadness and crazy. I mean, what exactly IS her real personality?

I'm also VERY disappointed an anime reboot is not likely. You see, for those who don't know, when the first anime was being made Takaya and the director, Akitaroh Daichi, fought HORRIBLY. While she had direct involvement with the anime adaptation she got a reputation for being a Control Freak. (i.e Takaya demanded that big name seiyuu be casted, something Daichi normally avoids.) Takaya also had issues with Daichi's work as well as the character designs... but sadly, Studio Deen would only let Daichi handle the series, and Daichi has pretty much confirmed that he won't work with Takaya again.

And because of that, she's REALLY understandably reluctant to give the rights out to the series. Though I would love to see one close to canon and am SO disappointed about how they ended up handling Akito. Takaya said she ALWAYS planned for her to be a girl, and, if that's true, they should have been way more ambiguous about it in the series and not just straight-up gendered her.

Whoa, that's pretty interesting. So, is that really why Fruits Basket's Anime is different from the Manga? I mean, I have read the series and I have seen a good chunk of the Anime and I can tell the differences. I also felt like the character designs in the Anime were different from the Manga, like, Tohru's hair is different...and Kyo's bracelet, lol.

Fruits Basket is one of my all time favorite series. It's one of the best storylines I've ever read. It got so dark and intense and all the characters were my precious babies. I cried so hard reading the final volume. I've reread the series so many times and it's always good. I miss it though. I wish it never ended. Kyo and Haru were my precious babies and I was so happy for them at the end. Especially Kyo.

Love this manga and anime. Although I do think the manga is better I've watched the anime more times then I can count. I wish they would do a true adaption as well, but seems like that is unlikely:( I also wish they would release a new box set of the manga in English since you pretty much can only get the volumes used or pay out the butt for new since they are out of print.

That would be Fruits Basket Another and it already has 5 chapters out (although they just renumbered them, because the chapters are so short, to having 2 chapters out).

Yeah, when Fruits Basket Another was first announced, Natsuki Takaya (the author) said that the series would take place after Tohru, Kyo, and Yuki had graduated high school, and that they would not be making a physical appearance in the new series, and that there would be a new protagonist (who is going to the same school that they did) named Sawa. There was some speculation going around as to whether she meant that the new series would take place right after they graduated (meaning that Sawa would get to interact with Haru, Momiji, and Machi), or that the new series would take place years in the future and that Sawa was actually Tohru's granddaughter. Which after reading that first chapter, both of these were proven to be wrong.

The series actually takes place during when

I love this series and I just recently bought the complete manga series a few weeks ago from someone online. I borrowed the books a few months ago from our library and decided that I needed to own them. I love all the characters and the developments they all go through. My favourites are Momiji and Yuki.

I don't care much for this series (I couldn't get into this manga series 8 years ago), but I still know some girl I haven't seen in like forever who IIRC love this series and I'm okay with that as longs she's happy.
