Apparently they say the reason he did it, is because he thought that anything the pope touches is holy including the water, so he took it to use to bless him and his family.

Can read the story here:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/powerpost/wp/2015/09/25/the-congressman-who-stole-the-popes-water-glass-and-drank-from-it/

Honestly I think the guy is crazy, rather then be blessed I could see him being cursed for stealing the Pope's water. Whatever happened to "Thou shall not steal"??

What do you guys think?

I think the news is desperate to make a story out of anything insignificant so that we won't be inclined to look around at the important shit that is happening..

I could see this being an SNL sketch in short order. It's not a very difficult setup, either. Just have the Pope seated at a table among a bunch of people eating lunch or dinner, and have someone snag a piece of food from his plate. Then, while he's objecting to the first person another one sneaks a sip of water from his glass while he's not looking. He notices his drink's level has gone down and asks the person next to him, who denies it. While they're talking the first person tries to sneak another piece of food, but this time the Pope notices and tries to stop him. The Pope then decides he's had enough, leaves his plate (which all the diners descend upon as he's leaving), then goes to check his coat and go to the next function. Initially he's told his coat has been lost, but then he looks out the window and sees someone leaving while wearing it. The Pope goes and tries to take his coat back, and the person trying to steal it insists it's theirs. They go back and forth for a while, then the Pope gets his coat back from a begrudging thief who still insists the coat is theirs. Upon returning to the Pope mobile he discovers that his hubcaps have been stolen by some men who are just fleeing with them. He calls out to them that he has something to say, and they stop to listen. Then he looks at the camera and says "Live from New York, it's Saturday night!"

Okay so he didn't steal it, that heading is just to get attention as the pope was already gone. I'm a former catholic, and as far as I recall the water actually has to be blessed to be of any meaning. All the pope did was drink from it so the water was not blessed so it was not holy. This also sounds like idolizing the pope which would actually be a sin, so would stealing someone's water if he did steal it which I guess could be argued.

Seriously though, this isn't news. Unfortunately there will be people who pay more attention to this than what the pope talked about which were incredibly important topics.

I'm glad you liked it, but it's on the internet already. I technically have no assurance that this hasn't already been copy/pasted into a document file and forwarded to someone's editor for review, and even if both you and I took our posts down right now we'd have no assurance that it would be down. Once something's on the net you're never completely sure you've taken it down entirely.

Haha true, the interwebs tends to absorb all instantly and keep it for eternity. Oh well, if this SNL sketch does happen I'll know who to gove the real credit to.
