A friend of mine has a farm, the place is so desolate that his nearest neighbor is four miles away.

From time to time, when he goes away, he will ask me to house-sit.

There is something about being that far away from other people, it clears the mind.

At night, I will go out and sit on his deck and look up at the stars, the sky is just filled with them.

One group of stars will catch my eye, a connection of sorts is made, and I know somebody is looking back.

It's always nice to get away from everything and just be by yourself sometimes : D

I think every person should spend a weekend in the country every once in a while or in a remote camping round away from civilization.

Just having time to yourself to be alone in a vast open area without being tied to electronics or even other people is like having your soul massaged.

I used to do that while out fishing....

I'll be glad when I have a job again and I can take some time and look at the sky on a lake away from most everything....

People are often stunned by the amount of stars they can see when they visit me. It's one of the better parts of living away from civilization.

I'm not particularly skilled at astronomy, but a girl I know was taught how to find a lot of the constellations by her father. Sometimes when she visits she'll talk about them and point them out to me. It's a nice feeling; very peaceful. Can't say I've ever noticed aliens staring back at me though.

Ouch, I remember seeing you mention being laid off in another thread. Hope you're able to find the new job you're seeking.

I completely agree.

There is something inside of us that makes us feel peaceful when surrounded by nature. I think nature is the greatest architect and artist.

I wish I had a friend like that who told me to house sit. I like being out in remote areas. I find it difficult to sleep with the sounds of the city around me. Cars, screaming drunks, people talking loudly, etc.

That's one thing I like about the countryside, lots of visible stars. When you live in a large city, there's too much light pollution to actually see a starry sky. I wouldn't sit around wishing to be invited to house sit. I've got a tent, all I need to do is find a country camp site with amenities that I can travel to, get a map, then off I'll go.

I once had great time camped out in a farmer's field one summer. Some to rent out the odd field for campers, they put a few of those moveable toilet cubicles and a van full of showers. There was one tap supplying water at the far end of the field.
