And that's interesting 8bit adapted those two, seems like there's a trend here. Also how was the Walkure Romance adaptation? And there's some fanservice scenes, 8bit will be happy campers I could also see 8bit making shorts of the Oppai route similar to what they did with the Grisaia shorts

I haven't read Walkure Romanze, since it hasn't been translated into English. I dropped the anime after a few episodes, but my understanding was that it was decently faithful to the VN.

Incidentally, Grisaia was an oddity in the first place. The canon ending of the first game is that he does everything in all the routes, but never dates or has sex with any of the girls. That ending isn't actually in the game, however. So it created a weird situation where the anime was following the canon route, but nobody had ever seen the canon route, since it isn't in the game. But I digress.

I think the Oppai Route could make for a funny three minute short as a BD extra. It's a one joke premise, but it is a pretty funny joke.

Based on their history of related works, 8-bit have only made three 2-cour adaptations with one of those being 15 minutes each:

Aquarion Evol
Tokyo Ravens
Encouragement of Climb: Second Season

So really unclear on this.

I am still really hoping for a double split cour of 24-25 episodes each.
It's also noticeable that Aniplex is involved in this so we may be getting some higher quality animation although the price tag on the BD/DVDs...

Hmmm I see.... Hopefully Aniplex can pride them with a good budget. A 4 cour series in total would be awesome, but we'll just have to wait and see

I'll be looking out for your updates Stark

Don't expect a full adaptation out of 13 episodes. Expect a "Okay, here is a 13 episode trailer of this Visual Novel. Watch it, then go read that Visual Novel off the internet somewhere" type of series.

Still waiting on that explicit version of Grisaia by the way. Steam gave us that shitty clean version..

Yeah this is gonna be a fucking train wreck. Now, I have read the visual novel, and the thing is- each individual route in the VN has events that are nigh incompatible with the other routes- I am not even talking about which heroine the protagonist falls in love with, I am talking about how there is no feasible way for one event in a route to happen in the same timeline in the other routes- like they are super incompatible due to the nature of the storyline. So the anime can't just mash all the storylines in one route like many anime studios do.

Secondly, this visual novel is pretty long, like 50 hours of reading. 24 episodes might not be enough to adapt it properly, hell I think 52 episodes might be what is needed. Plus the nature of the story doesn't lend itself well to a anime format.

Finally, this is 8 bit who is adapting it, who frankly after seeing their Grisisia adaptation, have no faith in when it comes to adaptations.

Hoping for the best, but expecting the worst.

Also it's already out. Denpasoft released it and I bought it last night!

D:

A lot of things can go wrong with this adaptation, but there is still some hope.

Grisaia uncensored version. Just type on google "Denpasoft Grisaia". It's $40.

For real? Are the translations reliable? Also, before I click away and check it out, could I also get the soundtrack for it? Because I have heard it and I love it.

Koestl, the guy who translated the visual novel for Grisisa, is known among the VN community for being a top notched translator. He did alot of research into military jargon and mulling over the tone of the story. Its a reliable one. Plus it was edited by Herkz (of the commie sub fame, who does good work as well.

So, is this gonna be the new Fate thread then? Great.

LoomyTheBrew wrote:

Well, I wouldn't say 8-bit is bad as them, but oh well. I hear the last two Grisaia adaptations were a lot better than the first season.

I would disagree and say that 8-bit is pretty bad. They have almost excusively made crappy (which is of course an opinion, but yeah, they're pretty bad) harems up to this point. When I think of them I think of Absolute Duo, Busou Shinki, Infinite Stratos and Walkure Romanze, which isn't really the best impression to have. What have they ever made that was good? Some would argue that Grisaia, at least the second season, was good, but I'd definitely disagree. I couldn't even finish the second season. Granted, I haven't finished the Visual Novel either, still waiting on a discount or a rain of money to get an official digital version, so I can't say if it's necessarily a problem of adaptation or not, but direction as well as general presentation and planning seemed off to a large degree, so it's not something that gets my hopes up.

LoomyTheBrew wrote:

That would be interesting if it was only those routes, but he'd probably want to include them all if possible. Also it's great that nowadays, more and more animes are making the original creator the script writer or at least heavily involved. It just makes the most sense because they have a vision of what the anime would be like and how to manage it.

Well, the thing is that you can't really afford to skip a route. Rewrite is one big story with a main conflict at the heart of it all and experiencing the different stories is important to get different perspectives and philosophies regarding the main issues. Kotori and Akane are the most important routes (of the girl specific ones), but cutting out either Chihaya or Shizuru (while neither route is particularly good) would leave the picture incomplete and damage the story as a whole. The only route that you could technically cut is Lucia's, but even that's not a solution I would feel great about.

LoomyTheBrew wrote:

Oh I see, I haven't seen "number 2" yet!

You would have if you had actually bothered to play Rewrite you lazy bum

That wouldn't really work that well. I can see them doing Harvest Festa for OVAs instead, that would be a good fit.

I guess I'm with farispie on this one. I am expecting a complete trainwreck so I'll be positively surprised if it doesn't turn out to be one.

How the hell to comment on this.
Firstly I hope they cut the common route, it was a disaster in the VN, way too long and pointless, an utter waste of countless hours where we didn't learn jack and stuff needed to be infodumped in the routes. I blame the bad sales numbers on that fact alone.
Secondly I hope they go for the Lucia route and cut everything else, her route was better than the rest of the VN. I don't care what other characters would have to die for this
But that's unlikely, so I place my last hope on Kotori -> Moon/Terra with as little as possible from the Shizuru and Chihaya routes, those where... bad.
And 8bit is back... that puts me firmly into camp #NoHope
