how can this be a discussion? Seriously
There's no question to answer, no real point. It's you saying you get annoyed with certain kinds of people.
People will either agree with you or not, but besides that there's nothing to discuss

This ain't the extended discussion section sweet cheeks.

This is to discuss the epic failures known as wapanese.

Even if it's in general it's gotta have something to discuss, doesn't it?

Wow.
I had these in high school.
They would run around repeating phrases
they learned off Naruto--
brag about how much ramen and pocky they eat all the time,
jumped into arguments stating that they wish the US had "japanese culture,"
etc etc.

They drove me nuts.
I may just be half Japanese,
but I find it funny for the first few seconds
because they think they're "turning Japanese"
or whatever--but then it gets so damn frustrating.

"I wanna go to Japan 'cause of anime!"
T__T

I had this guy who always wore a Naruto headband and Uraharas hat from Bleach. He weighs around 400 pounds and was kinda creepy.

eww wut the hell

Isn't this thread really just about generating hate for the American Otaku?
Because, yeah, a lot of the people on this board fit the description perfectly.

No, they're actually right. If you've been to other countries you'll know what I'm talking about

I don't think that's very fair. Alot of Americans admire Japan, are putting a great deal of effort into actually becoming fluent in the language, and also happen to enjoy anime. It's not any different from someone who admires the French and is learning French, or someone who admires the Italians and is learning Italian. Although, bashing America as a country and carrying on about how Japan is so much better isn't right.

You misunderstand. Wapanese are not like the people you mention. They are not really learning Japanese or anything. Rather they are a sad weird group who may know 20 words or so. Studying Japan is not something they really do as they stick to thinking Japan is like anime. They are the ones who for instance misuse the word otaku to describe themselves when in Japan otaku are looked down upon and insulted.

Well, I can understand why these people annoy you, they annoy me as well. I am president of my town's anime club and I have to deal with noobs all the time who ask me the most ridiculous questions and then shout 'Kawaii' or 'Itadakimasu' before they eat.

I would rather live in the US too, but I just mean that it's not right to try and say, "Oh! This country is better than everyone else! That makes us better!"

What's funny is that these type of people think that if they go to Japan, they'll be accepted wholeheartedly and have some kind of orgy of anime......And, that's not gonna happen. Anime fans in Japan are the same as they are in any other country. Outcasts, nerds, or whatever the hell you want to call them...Otaku isn't a word meant to describe anime fans, it's a word to describe nerds in general. So stop calling yourselves otaku people, and if you take pride in your otakuness. I totally can understand, but don't embarrass other anime fans because you want to live like you're Japanese.

I mean, I've seen that kind of crap before. I know this one Wapanese guy in my Spanish class who just sits around bragging about his Naruto and Bleach knowledge, and acting like he's a god of Japanese culture when he can't even speak a word of Japanese, and what makes him even funnier is that he tries to act black too. Because he's half-white and half-black, and he tries to hang out with the black crowd...But, he's rejected even worse by them. Hell...I remember once, he was about to get his ass kicked messing with them. I'm black myself and I tried to reason with them, but...They seriously hate him. People like him give anime fans a bad name. >_>

It can look weird or silly to people but it's merely another subculture in the world. Punk, goth, japan/anime fanatics (wapanese if you prefer to call them), skinheads, drama club people, etc. It's something society deals with to find a niche where they feel comfortable. Yes, it is socially, emotionally unhealthy for many people that may have too much of an obsession with this new subculture to be doing this in the US. However, they don't really do anything to anyone. It's just a hobby, obsession they have. I do find it silly when I see it at times but if it actually gets to you; perhaps, you need to look into your mental issues since you're getting stimulated by that enough to bring it up. Most people don't care if they notice something nor I don't know why anyone would care. Let anyone that likes something like it however much they want. There are people saying that they are vampires out there who shave down their teeth. I think there are more extreme groups out there than some people who are intrigued by Japan's media. This thread seems to be made for personal reasons and to get a negative reaction from anyone falling in the category rather than to bring up a worthwhile discussion.

Got a few of them where I live, and at the mall they hang out by the manga section of the bookstore :3 My goal is to be a linguist or translator or something, so I'm learning Japanese, Russian, etc., but does it make me one if I also like anime? Haha, I don't really flaunt my language learning that much, so people think that I'm normal :3

an Otaku is a person that has an unhealthy obsesion with a hobby. for example in japan there are people who are freaks about collecting trains. they're hole life revolves around trains. same with anime.

yeah i know!
i have like these japanese OBSESSED caucasians in my school
they keep saying their ethnicity is japanese cuz they know some japanese phrases, ate rice at some point in their life, copy harajuku clothing style, and they have asian friends.
it gets on my nerves sometimes.
Especially when they ask almost every asian person or asian thing weather it's japanese. They neglect all other asian races.
