For the past week and a half I've had series issues on my PS4 player where the video will start out fine in HD and then switch between SD and HD the rest of the episode. Lately it's gotten even worse where the video will stop playing all together.

I've changed DNS on my ps4 (can't change dns on my router), changed the connection from wireless to direct connection, unstalled and reinstalled the app, and cleared the ps4 cache. I'm not sure what else there is I can do to try and clear up the connection.

I can play HD videos just fine on all of the other players out there (amazon, netflix, etc).

Anyone else running into this issue?

I have. But i have crappy shared apt internet. Have you ran a speed test on your internet?

I'm having the same issue. This is actually the 2nd time I've had this issue. It does the same thing you mention, switches between HD/SD sometimes even just stopping play altogether. I've tried things like reinstalling the app but it doesn't help. And just like you, all my other things play fine (netflix etc) and my internet connection is A-okay.

I dunno why this happens and this is the first time I'm even seeing someone else have the same issue as me. Glad to know I'm not alone.

I have been experiencing this same issue with my PS3 lately. When the video switches between resolution it skips ahead a little bit and I keep losing small bits of the show. I reran network setup on my PS3, which is wired with automatic DNS, and my internet connection download speed tests at 7 mbps. I have not experienced the same issues with Netflix during the same time frame.

I am a big fan of Crunchyroll and don't mean to whine, but it is frustrating to have the video skip numerous times during a short anime episode. Thanks!

I have the same problem when watching on ps4. Everything else runs fine and on PC I have no problems. My internet is not the problem. Also i don't have these problems during the day, it starts around 10 PM CET. Anyone know what the problem is?

Wired or Wi-Fi connection locally?

It's wired and on my ps4 I get 67.1 Mbps download speed.

Have you tried changing to OpenDNS or Google's Public DNS?

I've had this problem for months on PS4. It's really a hit or miss. I usually end up just downloading the show from other sources. Can't believe this is what you get for paying premium. They are obviously saving in on server capacity or delivering faulty applications!

100Mbit wired connection here. Don't even bring up DNS, what other respectable streaming service would require you to do that?

I'm ending the subscription until they fix this sh*t.

My internet speed is not the issue, it is plenty fast enough for 1080p and 5.1 surround steaming on other services. DNS is also not a factor (I use openDNS anyway) and should not be a factor to begin with.

Has anything from crunchyroll's side been done on this?

Switching resolution is by design (I imagine) in order to reduce buffering.

Utilizing a different DNS may result in you being connected to a CDN server with a better end-to-end connection than what you're currently experiencing. I know personally I noticed a significant difference between TWC's default DNS and Google Public DNS after resetting my router recently.

I have been having the same issue with my ps3 and it is beyond frustrating. I have two ps3s, both wired to my router, and have the same problem where the resolution switches between HD and SD and it skips over small portions of the show. I have a 100Mbps connection. For a 22 minute show, I end up investing 29 minutes or more rewinding to see skipped portions (due to resolution switch, buffering, I don't know).

What makes it worse is I tried a Roku Stick and I have no issues playing Crunchyroll HD Video over my WIFI network. However I prefer the interface of the PS3 version. If I had another alternative (wish there was a version for my Fire TV) I would gladly use it.

I really wish these issues would be sorted out. Its been a few months if not a year like this.

At this point, I will seriously consider switching if another alternative presents itself.

Mine does it occasionally and wasn't a problem until tonight when I tried to watch episodes, now it switches back and forth and just freezes sometimes completely


EDIT: It seems to be working on my Xbox One, though I prefer watching Crunchyroll on my PS4 as the layout is much better.




EDIT 2: Okay now it's doing it regardless of console, no one's using my internet but me right now and there's no service provider issues at the moment so clearly this is just what happens when you pay for Premium+

Same issue. Don't have a problem on the PC upstairs on wireless. The PS3 is wired to the router. And I seem to have the HD/SD switch happen often. Has been happening for three days. Rebooted the router. Nothing. NO clue why it is doing this.

The web player uses fixed resolutions, while the apps use adaptive streaming.
