This is happening to me too. I can view everything fine on any mac/pc desktop or laptop in my house, wired or wifi. Only the PS4 has buffering and playback quality issues. I changed DNS settings and reinstalled the app but nothing seems to help. What's going on?

This happens to me every, single episode to the point where we dread having to watch something on Crunchyroll because we know the quality is going to be crap. We have no problems with other streaming services.

To make matters worse, we also have the issue on the PC so there's no way for us to comfortably watch on CR.

We have tried literally everything possible on our side. Tried emailing support which just regurgitated trying the same things we already tried and not being helpful at all. (Seriously: "Here's a list of things we tried." "Did you try THIS?" "....Yes...... we tried that." "But have you tried THIS?" "YES, WE TRIED THAT." I don't blame support at all. I also work in support and have to deal with frustrating glitches that are out of my control and the engineers care nothing about.)

The only conclusion everyone is able to come up with is that this is definitely on CR's side, yet they even refuse to believe that something is happening on THEIR SIDE. I am just frustrated and reluctantly and sadly on the verge of just cancelling my subscription and switching back to fansubs. I don't want to, but I pay for quality and am simply not getting that.

It's sad that I have to download a third party plugin to get this streaming working right. I don't understand why they can't just get this fixed already!!

for those on T-mobile....


The first result of our test confirms that when Binge On is enabled, T-Mobile throttles all HTML5 video streams to around 1.5Mps, even when the phone is capable of downloading at higher speeds, and regardless of whether or not the video provider enrolled in Binge On.

it could be just T-mobile screwing with the video quality.
i know it says "html 5", but i wouldn't be surprised if it also applied to flash-based videos like those on CR.

We've been having the quality swap on us seemingly randomly. One episode will be fine then the next will alternate between SD and HD (sometimes it'll straight up freeze). This wasn't the case a few months back on the PS4. When we watch on the Apple TV, we don't get these issues (though the UI on that is horrid).
