Aren't we all playing the roles of what we perceive to be ourselves??

^ This. Also we do it all the time mostly unconsciously though. Ever wondered where the word person comes? Trace back the word to the Latin root and you might have a good laugh. Ever put on airs or put on a mask so to speak in order to get by in the world? In a way I see that as role playing. But I see that doing it consciously might be weird for us to do cause we overthink it and get caught up in "I can't do this cause it's not me" which can make the whole situation quite crass, which is understandable. By the way I'm not to into it at the moment since I've never sought it before but I think it could be fun if I could get into character.

I play my roles consciously, I learned how to interest with groups by assuming different personas while larping. The skills I learned then are how I cope with people today. I simply assume the role that fits the situation. None of them are the real me. Only close friends and family get to see that.

Yea I do as well, for the sake of a thought provoking question though some would say, "aren't we always being ourselves?" I get a good smirk on my face from that question because I don't really know if that question can even be answered. I think that the human condition is so dynamic I question who I am on a constant basis just to check in since I recognize that I change like the seasons, but something about me remains quite similar something that words can't point at, I can't really describe it.

I would like to add that I think most people aren't even aware of themselves, but some are they both have there ups and downs.

As a guy who doesn't RP, it seems really strange for people to pretend to be other that they aren't

It's like a 30 year old man, playing house and pretending to be a little girl

you also do it with a bunch of strangers.

Ex. "I am 14 year old pretty girl from bark town"

I just find it strange, can someone tell me why RPing is so appealing to some?

Most RP is just an excuse to start cybering...

It's theater. Some people like watching theater, some people like acting in theater. With RP, it's basically improv theater where the GM comes up with the basic setting of the story and the players come up with the characters who react to the setting. Together, talented players and GM's can make very entertaining stories that neither side expected.

That's about it really.

Roleplaying as a nurse would be really weird. Other than that is kinda like a medic...

I've only RP'd once and I just didn't like it, made me feel awkward. But I can see why people would like to. Must be fun to be able to be someone else for a bit

What does roleplay have to do with WoW, or even computers?

All you need is a few friends and imagination. Anything from D&D to Shakespeare is fair game.

Because you don't have to be you and who you were born as.

When i RP i do so as a guy around my age who is a smartass and tactical basically it allows me to be myself without my facade up

When I was younger, I was introduced to chat room RP on Yahoo chat. (Back when it was popular.) I loved the idea of being able to write out a small story and interact stories with other people. Since I was small I loved reading and writing, so Roleplay seemed pretty cool to me. Then once I started gaming, I was introduced to a visual type of Roleplay, which was even cooler. Since then I have died down, being 28 now I haven't Roleplayed in about 5 years. Truly depends on who you roleplay with and what you RP about. Finding a good group of like minded individuals seems more hassle than I would even bother with now.
