As opposed to playing video/board games, performing in theatre, and Hollywood actors? Unless there's genuine confusion between reality and fantasy, I consider it normal escapism.

I RP with my younger sis. Only her. Last year, I tried with someone online. The jackass set up an obnoxiously invincible Mary-Sue character who conveniently could have spontaneous transformations for everything, and relied far too much on me to supply the story. He'd literally supplant one or two sentences for several paragraphs worth of my contributions. Lazy twat. My patience ran out after about seven sessions, and I dropped it.

RPing isn't something I really do either, I write stories with my friends, in plots that feature is alongside our characters, we take turns writing chapters in a campfire type way.

Every time I RPed with anyone, it always was them fucking me or if a female, we just lightly did it during normal conversation. So I don't have much RP experience.

We all have out thing man. I love to play TTRPGs like DnD, GURPS, Dragon Storm, etc... I'm not into RPing online or in bed, etc.

Like I said. we all have our things.

I do a lot of Improve roleplay, we do a lot of it on my group even though it isn't a RP group. I can't however seem to get into role plays that have settings like those demon angel or cafe groups you see on here. Our roleplay just happens, for example we have a normal conversation... let's say about cats for awhile and then sunddenly it turns into a plot for world domination led by cat man which turns out to be one of the members. Everyone plays along and adds to it till we get bored of it or it reaches a conclusion and then we go back to having normal conversations until we find another topic we can turn into some outrageous event.

As some have already stated, RPing is a great tool for writing or orating a story. Those who like to create tales or are hardcore 'world-builders' (guilty on the latter), its a fun escapism and creative outlet.

Of course, its also best with people you know can handle it intelligently and casually. Don't get too angry if something happens to your character, things happen. Be fair. No one is all powerful (unless there's a plot device in that somewhere), etc.

With the idea of RPing being brought up, I'm curious how many people have done so here on CR, especially online through text based games? Always glad to see more RPers.

And as for you aeb0717, you just ran into the wrong person. Got to be more careful whom you RP with or, well….you get that. Egocentric (even if unintentional on some people's cases) personal emphasis on their characters. In many cases from them associating their character with themselves a little too much. Subconsciously confusing fiction with reality on a very subtle background scale, but I digress.

Role-playing is kind of weird, the people that do it must have big imaginations. Lala is too shy for that.
