If the report were limited to simply spamming and trolling, you might have a point. But the report details various legitimate methods the internet can be used to inflict harm (see page 21). Other media forms like television can be used to incite violence against a person or people, the internet could be even more dangerous in that regard.

While Cyber Bullying can damage someone... there's a difference between killing innocent tribespeople like what African militias do in Rwanda, and Sierra Leone, and calling someone a filthy weaboo and saying "ur waifu is *bleep*". Yes you can say more offensive things than that obviously but that doesn't change the fact that words are words... it's the internet...

Are you kidding me? The report is a fucking joke.

Harassment/Spamming:
the use of technology
to continuously contact, annoy, threaten, and/or
scare the victim. This is ongoing behaviour and not
one isolated incident; e.g., persistent mobile calls/
texts; filling up voicemail with messages so no one
else can leave a message

Let me just bold little details missed.

Did you even take a look at their sources for this shit?

But here's a short summary:
https:[email protected]/citation-games-by-the-united-nations-cyberviolence-e8bb1336c8d1

Basically it was written by a bunch of people equivalent to fucking college freshmen.

This report equates "fuck her right in the pussy" to that of sexual assault. Do you see how trivializing to the legitimate issues this piece of shit report is? They are equating cyber 'violence' to physical 'violence'.

That's like a woman equating someone making a rape threat online or 'cyber rape' to the equivalent of being raped. The type of glare honest rape victims would give for that sort of bollocks is probably the glare equivalent to drowning you under a fucking faucet.

You can't even take a grain of salt out of the statistics unless you can locate the actual study, which you can't for most of these. Funny right?

It's a joke. We have a lot bigger problems than twitter feeds.

Aside from that, their proposals as a solution would make the internet no longer what it is today. So unless you're ready for the government to be breathing down your neck and reading your posts and messages (no more free internet hahahahaha), maybe you really shouldn't side with this bunch of malarkey.

I should clarify I'm not saying all the issues are stupid or trivial, but this report, this presentation, the offered solution, the goal they were legitimately aiming for. It's stupid.

That's even giving it too much credit. Those citations wouldn't even hold up in highschool.

Ultimately, the goal here is to ban criticism of . . . criticism.

How's that for doublethink?

I been feeling like the UN should have disbanded years ago or America should just leave. If this is what they are arguing about with these two women representing all women online then I truly pity them for having such bad representatives. I can't speak for most places but in America there are already laws about making death threats or trying to extort somebody but for your common everyday discussions Listen to Nancy Reagan folks and

example
I don't like that because of "X" and to have someone say that's "racist, sexist, phobic" instead of having an actually discussion is just plain sad. which is what will happen if the UN had a say in it.

As for the UN I believe these pics sums up my feelings on how useless they have become.

People must not know how to walk away from their screens or turn their screens off.

@PrinceJudar,

I don't think we're on the same page here. We seem to have different ideas of what the U.N. is focusing on. Perhaps this can articulate my position better: http://info.ils.indiana.edu/~herring/violence.html
