I'm sorry to say this as a Swede. But your 2nd Amendment was never intended to protect you from foreign oppressors, as Thomas Jefferson said "The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants.".

Your 2nd Amendment is your de facto right to rebel aginst your own government.

Yeah, you're right.

I mean, in Mexico, they just abduct students by the dozens, murder them, and throw the bodies in the desert never to be found.

So much better than being shot *in* the school

So that their overall life expectancy is almost exactly the same, but they kill themselves and save the crazed gunmen the effort? I mean, sure, I can totally see how emotionally crippling social pressures that drive an inordinately high suicide rate is preferable to the a possibility of involvement in a mass shooting that is somewhat statistically less likely than being struck by lightning, but....

No, wait. I can't. Never mind.

You may wish to actually read the text of the Amendment:

"A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed."

It does not explicitly specify against what threats it is intended, only that it is to ensure the "security of a free state". IE, security against foreign invasion, and to ensure it's a free state= rebel against a non-free governmental system.

Just watched the President's speech regarding the tragedy.

I agree completely that our thoughts and prayers are not enough.

Is America decsensitized to gun control?

But that stuff doesn't happen several times a year. Those Mexican students were killed because of their political view it wasn't a random gunman.

Just read the college was a "gun free zone" and it seems it was taken so true to heart that the campus security that was there was unarmed. So it was a true killing ground for the shooter, unbelievable.

That's the case.

I hate to say this, but the only way to stop someone with a gun is with another gun.

I think that would be a pretty good argument against gun control if this happened in even a slightly noticeable number of gun crime cases. What tends to actually happen though is that the criminal only stops when they get shot by police. The fact that mass shootings are occurring around once per week suggests the good guy with a gun scenario isn't really serving as much of a deterrent.

And then there are stories like this from the other day where the 'good guy with a gun' shoots a carjacking victim in the head: http://www.khou.com/story/news/2015/09/27/one-man-injured-after-carjacking-shooting-at-gas-station/72923278/

Neither of these things are filling me with hope that more untrained civilians with firearms is the answer.

Sad that some kid went on a spree and from what I have heard, shot Christians in the head. Is it true or another 4chan prank about that?

Was it a black church? If so it was probably the homie Dylan Roof, that is a legitimate church shooting, I think he killed 9 people there, he gave no fucks about it either.

What bothers me the most is my lack of feeling shocked due to how routine this has become.
