I don't see why people should care if someone identifies as an attack helicopter if that person is not asking you to go out of your way for it. There's plenty of delusional people in this world who believe in things like dragons and imaginary sky people that they have a close relationship with and talk to.

depends on what help or treatment since she allready have fallen "low" in her mindset she most likely would not be able to deal well with other trying or getting hints of "helping" her out.
Its more you have to go deeper without she disagreeing I guess or something on those lines, or get her something that "hurts" (electric charges or with some drug, phycial pressure something like training or work/hobby etc) her that she can use to calm the hurtfull thoughts could help (it being needle treatment, or battleing what she had agianst her eyes *have not read why she did it or if any reason at all*)

Yeah. You know, there are clearly people who would see this comment as disrespectful, but it really is true.

I worry for the future of this world filled with over-acceptance and over-tolerance. I haven't said this in a while on these forums, but I really don't understand society, and I've given up on trying. Maybe if I go live in the countryside, with bad Internet, where I won't have to read about people condoning mentally handicapped people blinding themselves, since they identified as blind.

Flimsy logic. Religion is largely based on culture and household influence. Someone who self-identifies as an inanimate object is not only a danger to themselves but to others as well as this person is entirely disconnected from the reality he/she lives amongst.

There are people professionally equipped in diagnosing and treating these kinds of mental illnesses. Most patients tend to disregard having a problem at all in the beginning so this is nothing to fear. This is where the phrase "the first step to recovery is admitting the problem" comes from.

This disorder is often even worse, since more often than not the people who blind themselves or amputate regret it afterwards. A documentary I watched on this sort of stuff claimed that since it is a mental disorder these people will often fall into depression over their choices, or will continue the trend of harming themselves.

I'm white.... I identify as black. I'm gonna go grab some shoe polish and get a perm.... Then a beat-down shortly after.

I'd indirectly group not being a danger under "not asking you to go out of your way for it". I also never said even mentioned religion, though now that you mention it, religion has the potential to be very dangerous at times.

This is not acceptable. A disorder ought to be treated, not accepted or even encouraged. Her actions were the result of her disorder and this makes what would otherwise be a stupid and irresponsible act simply sad.

Was your mention of "imaginary sky people" not in reference to the Christian God...? If not then who...? And, yes, religion can be dangerous when taken to levels of extremity. Case: ISIS, the Spanish Armada, Bloody Mary.

I hope she's happy. She got exactly what she wanted. Not many people get exactly what they want.
