Because legends never die

The original creators are gunning to get Swat Kats back on track, for those of you that were too young to remember, Swat Kats was an animated show syndicated by Hanna Barbera (the studio that made The Flintstones, Scooby Doo etc.). It ran for two seasons and was pulled because of "financial reasons" (but many agree it was because the show was trying to keep on par in violence with the anime that swept the US by this era).

The show features T-Bone and Razor, two vigilantes fighting crime in a fighter jet, the episodes are for show on youtube and for sale. If you were too young to be around, check it out

I loved that show!

It had some funny moments but things could get serious when needed. Kinda like anime.

And because what used to be Hanna Barbera was later absorbed, by way of Turner and Warner, into Cartoon Network Studios, to further enlighten the cartoon industry with Johnny Bravo and 2 Stupid Dogs.
Which is why a generation that grew up in the 90's after broadcast syndicated cartoons disappeared, and CN moved all their vintage stuff to Boomerang, remembers Swat Kats as "the last good American cartoon", for some other reason I've never been able to fathom besides the generational timing.

Pretty much "The last 80's action toon" before anime came in and the American ones all moved to cable, although being Turner, it was pretty much on its way to cable to begin with.
And yeah, Peggy Charren and the naively undefined E/I requirement pretty much destroyed all broadcast-syndication cartoons in the early 90's as we know them.

I can't understand this at all, cartoons went from cats in freakin fighter jets and general "save the world stuff" to "stupid people with stupid 1st world problems". Some remained (the ones too big to fail like "Batman") but in general cartoons have really stepped down their ambitions. I don't know if this is to be more "PC" but kids imo needs dreams, ambitions and some times "over the top nonsense" to preserve their fantasy, anime provides yes.

I really hope the creators take their ideas to Japan as well (2nd season was animated by a japanese company), I'm pretty sure several studios would jump at this idea just for what it is, and if they provide statement that this is a tried and true formula with an existing fanbas some corp guy would say "Where do I sign and what sexual services do you require of me?"

Well.... I'm biased and this is what I would say. But I don't have an animation company or a megaton of cash lying around

Good on ya trooper. I knew this topic would gather some support in the anime community. I don't know why but the heavy metal guitar riffs sets the standard for this western answer to anime. Competition is the catalyst of creativity, that is why we need the Swat Kats back in the air.

You are too young to know of these things, I'll tell you. Back in my day kids would just keep quiet and do what they were told! Now support this awesome idea!

To be honest, with the standards nowadays, it doesn't keep up. But the idea is solid, and "back in the days" this was what we got (you don't look down on the black/white era do ya?) and we old backwards oldies are gunning for the "idea" to get an update. It simply "wasn't fair", the Kats got flushed just because the "PC-morons" could get them and not the akira-style imported stuff.

Sorry pal but calling me kid when you're still quite young yourself is quite hilarious. Don't get all mardy when it's my opinion bud. I think the show looks absolutely shocking and shouldn't be given another season ;)

I know that's the fun part

Yes, that's your opinion and you are entitled to it but I still appreciate your contribution to the thread. If you don't like it, maybe someone you know will.

Money is enough to go around in this generation, support it or don't I just wanted to raise awareness. Also, I am young but you are a kid, I tell you by your first birthday I was running Black Ops in The Mushroom Kingdom!

Watching it now actually. It was awesome "back in the day" but now....

It deserves an update, it's "nostalgia" I know, but the idea is still original. Things can be done with it.

Come on, The internet? "Cats in a fighter jet!" It's the age of the internet! How can you not look on the idea of "Cats in a F-U-C-K-I-N-G fighter jet!" without screaming "TAKE MY MONEY!"
