Idk I didn't think Sword Art Online was that bad... but it was one of the first anime I ever watched so. I got to the point where I even made myself an OC for the Aincrad portion of SAO, and I make OC's for my favorite things. I agree that it went WAAAY downhill after Alfheim and GunGale, but who knows? Maybe this will be good. I'm excited

It's a fucking multiplayer game, why do we focus so much on this one guy? I'm sorry, but as an MMO player, this franchise pisses me off to no extent.

Because Kirito is apparently the only one who comes to understand the "meta" of the game, that's why. This (real) story of SAO is rather complex and advanced; one that addresses to a degree the "meaning of life", not unlike the Chaos;Head and sorted franchise. The reason also the show is popular, even if the "average Otaku" isn't smart enough to know why.

If ye "Peoples of the Internet" need to be schooled as to why SAO is #1, it can be done. But it simply isn't because Asuna's breasts are big, of course. Such insolent pestilence...

Anyways, in other news... Me is wondering whether the theoretical release in USA will be sub or dub. And where does it go there after, will it be on CR/FUNI/Aniplex stream service, or not.....

Theatrical release will be subtitled, tickets are already available for the USA on fandango's website for only March 9th. Considering how the movie is distributed by Aniplex hopefully it'll end up on Netflix (where most Aniplex titles go for streaming)

Ahh, interesting, well then. I was hoping to see the dub version, especially if I have to pay for it. Could explain further, but will leave at that.

I guess I have to wait for/if a dub will exist. In either case, I will admit I am not hard core enough to rush out right away to see; but me is /lazy so.......

This information was released from Aniplex just today. In Japan the movie will premiere on February 18th, however for North America the opening premiere will be on March 1st in Hollywood, California. Aniplex promised that they will announce more showings and tickets at a later time throughout North America. So for those of you SAO fans not in California, don't worry Aniplex says they are going to have the movie show in other parts of the world as well.

Seems like a good time to bump this thread, since the Japan premiere just happened, and folks are starting new threads asking about it.

As also mentioned more recently just a few posts above, the US nationwide theatrical release is March 9. There's more info (and ticket sales) at:

http://sao-movie.net/us/ (Note: the March 1 premiere is sold out)

I suggest clicking "Click here to buy tickets" to search by zip code to see if there's a showing near you. The list of locations prominently listed on the http://sao-movie.net/us/theater/ page is very limited. For example, my state, Massachusetts, isn't listed there, but when I click to buy and look by zip code, I found three theaters very close by.

Saw the movie last night. Definitely the best thing that's come out of the SAO universe to date.

If you can see the movie, I recommend going.

So when can those of us who are huge SAO fans see this freaking movie? Dumb decision to release it for one night, a Thursday night, with the closest theater to me to airing it being 6 hours away. Thanks. I'm a big SAO fan, I have all the light novels, both proper and progressive in physical copy, all the manga, all the video games on vita, and I play MD on android. I'm willing to pay to watch OS, yet there is literally no legal way for me to watch it EVEN THOUGH it has released. What kind of stupid business decision is that? Will crunchyroll get it, or do I have to pirate it even though I don't want to, if I ever want to watch the movie?
