I just got into the Monogatari series after the premiere of Owarimonogatari on CR. I'm starting it from the beginning to get a better understanding of things, but even when watching Owari first, I couldn't help but feel intense Haruhi vibes here (The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya). I know a lot of people hated Haruhi, but it still remains a cult classic to me, and I'd gladly watch the Endless Eight again, as long as it's with someone who's completely clueless to the series. The narration and directing is oddly familiar, though I'd say the artwork borders closer to Rampo Kitan: A Game of Laplace.

My first instinct was to Google connections between the series, but there were none at all. What do you think? Is this all just a coincidence or is there some merit here? I just kept thinking, "Well, shit. If this were somehow connected to the Haruhi universe, this would serve to explain all the shit that's happening in the background, but is only ever alluded to." I know the author had no clue where to go with the series, but this would definitely be it, if there was any.

End Rant.

I do not believe the two are in any way related to one another.

Haruhi would be a lot different if it were compatible with Monogatari. Haruhi is about time travelers and aliens and espers and whatnot, Monogatari is a modernized take on traditional Shinto mythology and the interactions between humans and spirits. If anything it has more in common with Mushishi in terms of existing in the same type of story world.

They're both good though. Actually all three of them are.
