I almost quit anime!

Even before I knew what 'Anime' was, I've always been fascinated with animation. When I watched television, and flipped through the channels, I would stop just to watch something that was animated. I didn't care if it was a show, or commercial. I just loved it.

Well I don't know how to draw, my passion is writing, but my love of animation never vanished. Well one day I saw an article for an up, and coming website that was dedicated to anime, and they wanted people to write articles for their site. Well I decided to give it a shot, and much to my surprise they added me to their team. My job was to write articles for their website, do anime reviews, things of that nature.

I had to ease into writing reviews as well. I had to look at all the anime shows I wanted to review, and look for something to complain about. Seriously, I had to find complaints for shows I loved, and that was actually pretty hard for me, but Crunchyroll and this website had some kind of collaboration going on, so I actually got a free membership out of the deal, so I wasn't complaining too much about that.

The thing that really bothered me about the whole thing, was the owner of the website. He knew what he wanted, but at the same time he didn't know what he wanted. He also couldn't answer questions to save his life. For instance, I received a free DVD from FUNimation once. The anime I reviewed was also online. One was at HULU and the other was located at FUNimation's website. I was supposed to add a link to the free videos, so I asked him if I should add a link to FUNi's site, or Hulu. Instead of answering my question, he told me I should add four pictures to my review when I turned it in.

Guess how well that answered my question!

And to make one thing clear. Funimation didn't give me that DVD because I made a friend there. I actually did something else to earn that DVD.

The final straw for me, was when I wrote an article for 'Squid Girl'. I had some really great pictures that would have went well with that article, but I forgot to turn them in when I sent the article in. The guy went ahead and published my article, and posted some other picture with it. He than sent me some email about how I need to remember to add the picture. Well I apologized, and sent the picture I wanted in my article. Instead of changing it out, He rejected the picture and said 'were gangstas here' or some crap!

I actually felt very disrespected! I had went to the trouble of writing an article, finding the perfect pictures for it, and because of an innocent mistake, the article is posted, and my pictures are rejected.

Now this is the sad part. On Crunchyroll they were advertising new anime series for the new season, and I wasn't looking forward to it! My love of anime had almost vanished entirely! I was actually dreading the new season! Needless to say, I quit shortly after that.

What I mentioned above was only a small part of a much bigger problem.

I felt tricked by the website anyways. They told everyone that we would get free merchandise to review, but when I finally landed the job (which I wasn't paid for) they told us that it was OUR job to make contacts, and get that free merchandise.

Anyways, that's why I almost quit anime. That one website, that one owner, nearly sucked out all the fun anime gives me today. I'm glad I quit.

If anyone's wondering. I'm not posting the name of the website, but it's now gone.

I don't understand what the purpose of this thread in general discussion other than to complain for doing something you really did not want but was too afraid to just stop. Are you asking for advice, are you asking others if they were in the same situation? What is the purpose of this discussion?

Well that sucks. But in all honesty, you should have quit when they told you to get the free stuff yourself. That was the first sign of how shitty it was going to get.

I'm just glad you're glad in anime's addicting steady arms comrade.

It seems like so many things in life, the substance is in the details . . . or lack there-of.

Hope you don't need to run into stuff like that again . . . but you probably will.
Don't take it personally.... Try not get angry about it... Probably not saying anything that you haven't figured out.
I've had to work for people like that before . . . I might be a bit more thick-skinned about some things. I just start looking for a new job or if I get laid-off, I look at it as a blessing.

Yeah, doesn't really belong in General Discussion. I've now moved it to Chit-Chat where personal threads, even if it's just venting, are appropriate.

quitting his job is ok but why should he dictate whether you see and like anime or not?

I just thought it was weird that I would allow someone I've never met before, ruin anime for me. The only contact I had with this person was over Email.

I was venting, but I was also wondering if anyone else had went through something like that. I should have asked that question.

Oh, and sorry for putting this in the wrong section. I didn't really look to see if there was a personal area to post stuff.

What I understand is that I think you mean you hate your job, not the anime itself..?
