Hi guys :)

A long time ago, from 2000 to 2009 or 20010, there were 3 anime that were considered the big 3 animes,

Naruto, One Piece, and Bleach.

Obviously things changed since then, so in your opinion, who are the new big 3 animes ??

Well, One piece is still quite big for some reason...
Attack on titan season 2 is naturally going to blow up when it hits, so that makes for one.
And One punch man will take the third spot for a short time

It was supposed to be World Trigger, Tokyo Ghoul and Toriko... Toei acquired all of them and ruined them.

So right now it's looking like My Hero Academia, Food Wars and Haikyuu. 2 have good anime adaptations, third one will be a huge hit if it stays out of the hands of a shitty studio like Toei.

It seems to me that the industry has just about given up on making long-running shounen series like those 3.

Toei has taken control of One Piece ever since the time skip and they doing fine.

Why did the others fail then ?

Toei was always in charge of One Piece but the decline in quality is real. The animation was better in the first few years than it is today. A lot less frames and more camera panning. Basically, they are finding ways to keep costs low, hoping no one would notice. That is also why the others fail in the quality department. Sales of the manga for each series has either stayed the same or has gotten worse, versus say Seven Deadly Sins or Attack on Titan where sales doubled or tripled.

To be honest I don't think that we are going to have to worry about a new big 3 for a while, as One Piece and Naruto are still ongoing. However, there is no doubt that Fairy Tail will replace Bleach!

The quality has defiantly lost its impact.

But I hear that the fliers are less now, and the arcs are as great as the manga, so at least that's something that they kept from

the old days.

You mean it's not Voltron, Speed Racer, and Astro Boy?

Or wait, what was Voltron called over there... Six-beast Go Lion or something....

What about Case Closed? It's second only to the Whoniverse as the biggest spec fic franchise by episode. Whoniverse is at 841 total ( Doctor Who/Torchwood/K-9/Sarah Jane), whereas Conan and Kaito have hit (817 or 829 if you count both Kaito series). Hell, the two Doctor Who series combined have 2 fewer episodes than Case Closed. (793 v 791).

Oddly Doctor Who left the air the same year Case Closed started.

Big 3 was more of a manga thing than anime.

One Piece and Naruto are still the Top 2, I believe. They're still producing popular episodes, video games, movies, and merchandise. Naruto will probably die down once Shippuden stops airing, but it's hard to say which long-running shounen series will take its place (Fairy Tail?). On that note, I'd buy a Fairy Tail game if CyberConnect2 made it (the creators of Naruto: Ninja Storm and JoJo's: All-Star Battle).

Then there are the myriad popular anime with only 1-3 seasons. Attack on Titan is popular, but it's kind of like the new Death Note. And even Death Note wasn't huge enough to be considered one of the Big 3. Shounen Jump titles will always be somewhat popular -- Food Wars, JoJo's, Toriko, etc. -- just because they're the biggest name. They're like Nintendo. But it'll take another long-running show to reach the top.

A show with 20-some episodes ever just isn't big enough. It needs more content and proven staying power. It needs fans who can cry "More!" and actually get it for years. JoJo's has that potential, just because there are like 10 more years' worth of manga content to animate, and it's got great momentum right now. Another game is on the way, and the Part 4 announcement should come any day now.

But it'll be up to audiences to decide. Studios can push what they want, but if no one watches and no one buys the DVDs/Figures/Volumes/Games/Whatever, it'll just quietly die off.

True, like everyone is saying though, One Piece can still be considered part of the big 3. I think in order to be one you need to be selling at least 1 million per volume.

Well Hunter X Hunter replaced Bleach for a while there, once Naruto is over, AoT will probably replace it, and Fairy tale probably replaces dead in the water HxH
