I'm watching this for the first time since Sora got a lot of votes in the best sister contest. Not really impressed or hate it. Subtitles flash to fast and are, at times, too long or good reading. The quotes at the end distracting with the Chibi art style. Overall it ranks as a MEH anime to me.

Oh yeah, it's a pretty bland anime. Decent at best. That doesn't mean it can't have an awesome character. That being Sora.

So far I am still unimpressed with the anime. I know she was sickly and injured, probably from what caused Sora and Haru's parents death, but so far I am not overly fond of Sora either. Okay bus stop fire and she admitted fear of abandonment so I can sympathize with her some. Still think Haru is the author's wet dream stand in though.

Perhaps the hype exceeds the reality? Not unusual for shows that have been long discussed, but little seen.

I also do not know if a "censored" version was ever aired. If one does exist, it would of been from Tokyo-MX.

A certain website lists not only the airing times for Tokyo MX (Thursdays @ 26:00 [Fridays @ 2:00am]) and BS11 Digital (Fridays @ 23:30) in autumn 2010, but goes further to indicate both those broadcasts were censored.

i think the only difference between the censored and uncensored version was that the censored version didn't have fully animated sex scenes and had a sort of a still shot with some audio and different camera cropping

YnS seems to me like a bunch of interesting ideas (some good, some bad) all tried at the same time:

-- Omnibus Harem (see also: Amagami SS, Photokano)
-- Chibi shorts (see also: Haruhi Suzimiya-chan)
-- Censorship-boundary pushing content (see also: High School DxD; Freezing)
-- Incest (see also: Koi Kaze)

Personally, I think that the omnibus format is a reasonable way to tell the story, and I liked how they interwove it; it felt true to its Visual Novel roots, in particular. I also generally liked the individual stories, particularly the two sisters' stories (which reveal different sides of the strained dynamics of a somewhat broken family). I wish more VN adaptations would try this story-telling method.

That being said, the Chibi bits felt strange (funny at times, but mostly just weird), the incest plot wasn't handled especially well, and many of the sex scenes felt tacked on and purely gratuitous. More importantly, the MC was way too bland and child-like, which was especially weird considering the amount of sex he was having.

Over all, not a bad show, if you don't mind the sex and incest. But there are certainly better.

The only reason people even remember this show are the last four episodes a.k.a. Sora's arc. This is a Visual Novel adaptation and the rest of the routes are just not very interesting and lack the characters to make them stand out. Sora's route is clearly the only one worth watching. Now, whether or not you will enjoy her part in this certainly depends on your taste, incest is not a thing everybody can deal with, especially if it involves sex scenes that can be considered graphic. But I do think that they deal with the issue in an appropriate way, it's engaging enough and far more interesting than the rest of the series.

Is it worth watching the whole series for ... ? I'd honestly say "no" to that.

Edit: It's also an interesting watch if you are a fan of VNs and want to see how they can be adapted into Anime.

I watched this years ago and at first i thought it was interesting, then it turned to every episode ending with the guy having sex with different girls. It was so random i stopped at episode 8 or 9 i think. I knew later that it was based on a VN and was doing different routes. Might check out the last few episodes though i am not expecting much.

Wait until you get to Sora's arc. She's the reason anyone should watch this show.

If anyone wants to skip straight to Sora, you can watch it in this order: Episode 1, 7, 10, 11, 12.

I know it's weird, but Sora's arc actually branches off from episode 7.

Watched it, saw the sex scenes and have since considered it as softcore hentai (whether this is a good or bad thing is up to the viewer) where it just barely avoids being hentai by technicality (personally I'd still consider it a hentai), and then read the manga which iirc takes out the sex while giving the same/similar story. The sex didn't add anything to the emotion of the story and I actually prefer the manga version for focusing on the core story. Its not a horrible series but I don't see anything great in it either just average with 'edgy/shocking' elements; now if one puts it in the hentai genre then hilariously enough it may actually be above average.

Okay I finished the series. To me, honestly,Haru and Sora were so boring the only character more boring was the one-trick pony Rekouhei (sp?). I was slightly, and I mean very slightly, amused how the breasts got 2-3 times bigger outside the clothes. The best I can say about the show was that it filled up time that was available due to insomnia. So it gets 3 stars out of 10 for me.

I only remotely liked Akira Amatsume. That was about it. At least her story was decent. And she was a sweet girl.

Interestingly, the visual novel suffered from the exact same problem: almost no focus any of the other characters, even in their own routes. Sora's route was the only good thing there, as well.

It is an interesting series as more of an academic exercise than anything else, since it's a fairly unusual approach to adapting a visual novel. And it is pretty interesting to see a series take a serious approach to the topic of brother-sister incest, instead of your more standard approaches (either playing it for laughs, or making it a purely sexual thing).

I still wouldn't really call the series "good", but it is interesting, I suppose.
