This thread lacks PV quality.

Who are you? And what have you done with PV?

Loooong sigh. I was hoping this topic wouldn't reach the CR forums...

Just gonna leave that quote from the ANN forums here and be on my way

This is going to be the only thing I say on this matter, and then I'll be done.

Being one of the moderators on FUNimation's forums, I have heard from an official source that FUNimation and the writers have talked to Tyson personally and asked him to refrain from referencing GamerGate in any more of their dubs, to which he has agreed. Also, they are considering re-dubbing the line for the home video release, but they have not yet made the decision to do so just yet.

Just thought I should pass that along. On a personal level, I've had to deal with this matter on the FUNi forums since the dub debuted, and quite frankly I'm tired of it. The sooner we can all put this behind us, the better.

I am PV's waifu, and I'm sexually torturing him as we speak.

welcome to the funimation brand of Dubbing. they add some really stupid stuff to make the dub only audience feel at home.

Its like that idiot fansub group that made madoka the class nurse rather then the class health representative. Or the ones who don't actually translate the lines correctly and instead put their own in-jokes directly into the anime except worse because you cant hear the proper Japanese with a dub.

Yeah, that's what I don't get about this thing.

Crunchy put out a far more controversial thing with tweeting about that #LoveWins pic with Reina and Kumiko from Sound Euphonium shortly after the gay marriage ruling.

They lost subscribers and revenue, but they didn't go out of their way to attack those who disagreed.

'
Even many who thought that Crunchy delving into political matters like that was tasteless were able to simply enjoy the craft behind the tweet, which really was fucking brilliant. Anime viewers can appreciate a good joke and the creative craft, it is why so many series fans might not be fans of certain characters or themes still recommend those series to others, because they respect the creativity or presentation of it.

However the guy who made this thing for Funimation, and several other Funi employees, apparently went on a social media sperg-off spree where they downright insulted fans and those just wondering what the hell was going on.

And the original bastardization of the material wasn't even funny to begin with.

There was no consideration for craft, for the source material, or for the fucking fans.

And nowhere along the chain of command did anyone at Funimation declare that saying Fuck You to the source material or the people paying their salaries was a bad idea.

There was the original script guy. The editor. The director. The ADV folks. The overall localisation director.

None of those people had a problem with it.

And then when the people insulted don't sit down and take it, who the majority don't even appear to be GamerWhatevers but are just people with fucking self respect and respect for this industry and its creators, everyone from the miserable little mods on the Funi forums to the higher-ups at the company give this sort of exasperated, "How dare you question us, shut up and stay quiet, I don't need to fucking justify anything" response.

It's fucking entitlement.

It's fucking entitlement on the part of whatever idiot decided to rewrite someone elses' material to throw a bitch-fit about people he didn't like, it's fucking entitlement on his superiors who don't want to acknowledge they have absolutely no concept of the responsibility that comes with their positions, it's fucking entitlement on the tiny tyrants of their forums who can't fathom not having a personal echo chamber, and it's fucking entitlement and gross corporate negligence to think you can take a steaming pile on your customers and tell them to "just deal with it."

But here's the thing they don't seem to quite understand.

They sure as hell aren't entitled to my money.

I'm more alarmed that they tried to make a Happy Days reference to the Fonz. I mean, geez guys. None of your voice actors are even old enough to get that reference. Who exactly do you think is watching this show?

People who quit CR because of that makes me sad. It' ain't like they doing what HobbyLobby is and outright refusing to cover contraceptives. Versus Chik Fil Lay when the CEO just said he agreed with the traditional form of marriage.

As for the thing, I don't see the big deal. Gamer's hands aren't clean of the matter any more than the massive slander of game culture by the SJWs (And can you blame them?) What upsets me even more is the bastardization of the source material by trying to localize it. My god, is it freaking 4kids and there crappy subway sandwiches in the Pokemon dub is it?

Then don't watch any FUNi dubs, cause they change lines in every dub they do. They have to. They can't get the exact same lines to work because of mouth flaps and stuff. And it isn't just FUNi that has to do this. Every dub ever had lines changed because of the fundamental differences between English and Japanese.

If you are so worried about the "bastardization" of the source material, stick to subs.

I don't watch dubs. Am I not allowed to hate? Hatred is a gift, a right! I demand to hate and have negative opinions on stuff! Saying it is a case of "don't like it, don't watch it" feels like an excuse to shut a person up or invalidate their opinion.

I prefer direct translations, not this censorship of Japanese culture for a more American one. Kids these days need to know what a riceball is. Expanding your horizons never harmed anyone.
