It is widely known that Spain, Great Britain, France, and the United States have all colonized the Caribbean Islands. But did you know that Denmark was a colonial power for some time?

Since I know my Caribbean history this isn't unknown to me. The Dutch were also in the Caribbean and had a colony. Others there were there and still left a legacy are the Portugese, Irish, Germans and Latvians.

The Netherlands and Denmark are two separate countries. They only have a trade link history.

This might help you

Man, apparently Niels Bohr and Hans Christian Andersen need more press. They're getting their publicity asses kicked by freaking tinker toys.

Well, sure. Everybody who was anybody in Europe had to have a piece of that colonial pie. Colonial possessions were the ultimate symbol of national power, and the desire for this was a direct cause of both world wars.

It was more than that, though. Colonialism wasn't just about status and symbolic power, it was considered by many to be the only way nations could survive. Even if you didn't want to expand into colonial ventures you still had people clamoring for you to do so since everyone else was. It was a pretty vicious cycle.

"Someone else expanded here, so you need to expand there to match the resources and land they just got. If you don't they'll outpace us, outcompete us, and we'll disappear."

"Uh-oh. Those guys just matched our expansion. If we're going to stay ahead we've got to have more colonies. Hey, that place has rubber trees! Get them!!!!!!!"

Damn shame Japan failed in its colonial ventures. The world would be a better place if the Greater East Asian Co Prosperity Sphere controlled the majority of the globe.
