There's no specific "point" as reasons vary depending on the person.
I, myself, drink from time to time when i'm out with friends or so and the sole reason is that it's an outing/social event.
Otherwise I dislike alcoholic beverages being as they're bitter and gross to me, lol.
Many people I know drink because they think it's good, others do it out of boredom, like a whole "why not?" thing.
So depending on that said individual, the point changes.
As for your list, that's more of symptoms of someone who got a little too wasted xD

For me a drink a day is a great way to keep stress away.

If your an idiot and you down a lot of alcohol, then you can have those issues. For most of those issues you listed, I have to drink an entire bottle of hard liquor! I have never even had shattered memories. I don't know how much I would need to drink for that. It would have to be more than 1L of Jack Daniels.

Another reason I like to drink is with a few select friends. Just get together, drink and bullshit all night long.

I would say social events or to get courage to converse with a female helps me a lot.

Like someone else on here posted it helps me to relax and unwind, especially after a trying day at work. (also, because I'm a mechanic, it helps allieviate some of the minor pains that spring up as a result of that work at the same time. I really serves a double duty for me.) It also allows me to converse more freely with other people since I'm a naturally reserved person. opening up to new people is difficult and stressful for me so it helps quite a bit with that.

Interesting, keep the perspectives coming. I am enjoying it!

A different perspective for me,sometimes it serves as a catalyst for new idea's for me I can see why a lot of artists drink a lot, though I couldn't imagine actually putting those ideas into creation till one sobered up. Also I know personally I'm quite prone to getting hungover the next day if I drink to much but how much are you drinking OP when you drink? Sounds like too much.

Wow, I never knew about that. You opened my eyes to something new! Although I mentioned heavy drinks, I only drink one but most I mentioned are the results of attending Filipino parties (I am 50%) and seeing what happens to others when they drink

Y'know, for the longest time, I thought that I was the only person in the world that didn't drink.

Now I know that I'm like the fourth.

Awaken_Ricebal,

What you describe as mention by others is an individual who consumes to get wasted. They are not interesting in socializing, just drinking. This is equivalent to a smoker who chain smokes a carton of cigarettes and not enjoying fragrance as you would with a cigar.

I drink responsibly. I drink either at home (with a meal), at a social event, at friend's party, or at a conference. If I am driving, I have only one drink. If I am at a conference/social event and not driving, two drinks. When the shit hits the fan and I need to let out steam, I go to a bar and have a drink and talk to the other bar patrons.

Drinking is not for everyone. So don't feel bad about it nor should you judge those that do.

You don't have to drink to have fun. I drink occasionally. Most of the time when I am having fun with my family and friends, I'm just drinking water.

I don't drink to get drunk or for any level of it's depressive effects. When I drink it's simply because I want that particular drink. For the most part my drink is rum and very rarely beer.(most beer tastes like carbonated water without flavor to me)

Even then I rarely drink alcohol due to a duodenal ulcer. When I do drink it isn't in any amount that would inhibit me any more than my cyclobenzaprine or OTC diphenhydramine. I do not take these medicines within 24hrs of drinking as I don't like to stack depressive effects; that would be dangerous!

In short, I drink merely for the flavor and nothing more and in extreme moderation. I would probably be pretty upset if all the rum were gone...

Everyone deserves a little fun out of life. There is, in my opinion, fun in feeding myself alcoholic poison that makes me drunk. On occasion. It makes me twenty times as more sociable and as long as I don't overdo things, nor drive, and have a sober person with me? I do not see myself as a menace to anyone and in turn no one is a menace because I have a sober friend/family member around. Drinking is fine, in moderation. Drinking too much is obviously an extremely poor health choice, damaging to the liver, often ends in hangovers. But it's also important to remember that a lot of alcoholics essentially have addictions which really makes it a mental issue.

Anyway, I drink rarely and at events where I know I can get home safely, mainly social events (parties, weddings, etc). I used to be very bad about trying to drown myself in alcohol privately when I was at a mental low, couple years prior but have since learned to control the urges……
