2. Waking up to a hang over
3. Shattered memories (Trying to remember what happened the day before)

The difference, I don't get any of that. Well besides number one since you can't really not do that if you drink.

Everything kills brain cells brochacho...but it's better to thin the herd of the weak ones, only the strong ones survive, and those the ones you want to keep anyway.

Yeah just wanted to make it clear so he wouldn't come back at me like "Well how you not killing the brains cells?" and whatnot.

WRONG. I take it that you have never developed a taste for red wine?
Never developed a taste for beer or drank GOOD beer on a really hot day?
I take that you have never tried good well aged scotch? Like 18 year old plus?
But i wont lie, first time i tried beer it was gross. Drinking scotch straight was gross, wine was gross.
But i was a kid back then. Your tastes change. Just like with food.
Think about how many foods you thought were gross as a kid but later in life enjoy, same thing with alcohol.
We all start off drinking just to get drunk, but with age that changes.
Sh*t, i still like to get drunk though.

Iam actually really surprised to see that there are so many people here that have never been drunk or do not drink? Not sure if just young or what?
I cant imagine having grown up without drinking every weekend?
To each their own though. Your wallets would be loving it, and your liver. Cant imagine life being very exciting though?
But i mean drinking and smoking weed is all i've known i guess, growing up i mean.

It is extremely rewarding, since I love trying new beer.

Currently I have a race going on between my BeerAdvocate beer list and my ANN anime list.

After I added the Summer anime, I'm at about:

800+ anime
vs
500+ beers

Edit: The funny thing is that anime and beer aren't all that different to me.

I find it odd that people who have never tried it or otherwise given it a chance are so against it sometimes.

When I first had beer, it was a cheap canned type and it made me think all beer was disgusting. Then, my friend gave me an Eistok porter and it was amazing. I favor stouts and porters now, since I do have a taste for black coffee, dark chocolate, and strong red wines. I can drink cheap beers and IPAs without gagging and complaining now, but I prefer darks. Still gotta break in the sour ales, though. I can't stand sour ales but I want to be able to appreciate them, at least.

now this is the kind of reply that i am talking about! In all fairness, a lot of people on here are a bit young and seem to try to be edgy. I am astonished with how many replies to threads like this are, "whats the point" and "why would i waste my time"? What is the point of being so adamantly against it? But yea i have a similar response to yours. Op should have rephrased the topic though, those are'nt symptoms of just having a couple drinks.

So badly just want to tell you to get off your high horse. Just because you find no enjoyment in an activity doesn't make it pointless. I see this only as a form of preaching masked by discussion. You sound incredibly naive if you can't see a point in alcohol or any of the other countless mind altering substances that humans imbibe and have done so since the beginning of recorded history.

Why is it that humans take mind altering substances, regardless of the countless negative effects it has and the mountains of clear and concise data that shows it is harmful? Simple, because life is hard.

Alcohol, tobacco, marijuana, stimulants, depressants, antidepressants, hallucinogens, so many different things and all of them effect the body negatively in some way. Yet people use them because it offers them a means of escape. Life is stressful and taking any number of these things offers a momentary escape from reality.

Some go beyond a simple escape and abuse whatever it is they take while others are able to consume without much noticeable impact on their lives.

I find it hard to believe your life has been so blessed that you can't even see the very obvious and simple point as to why people drink alcohol. Yes its harmful, yes it leads to bad decisions, yes it can be dangerous, but people are willing to risk that for some stress relief.
If on the other hand that is the case, and your life is so carefree and void of stress that you have no need for any of these things but still can't see the point? Then you need to read a book.

There's also the simple fact that, hey, maybe some people enjoy alcohol. Again don't be so naive as to think that if you don't like something nobody else could.

Yeah i cant understand it at all? Its like they think that everytime you drink you get sick or a hang over or like everyone acts bad when they drink or something?
How they are raised or the crowd they hang around i guess?
Not saying that there is nothing bad about alcohol but to not drink it at all you are really missing out.

Yeah the first beers that i tried were cheap and nasty also and some beer in a can is not very nice.
Yeah man, i love stout! LOVE it. Particularly during the winter time.
That's a good example, i did not like stout when i was younger, loved beer but stout was too heavy. But with age you change.
I drink alot of ales but i cant say that i have heard of or are familiar with "sour" ale?

Yeah i can understand if they are young and in America you have weird laws like you cant drink until you are 21.
But i first got drunk when i was in my very early teens. But yeah..
I guess some people are just really big on health or saving $ or they think they are too intelligent to drink or something?
Or afraid?
I guess some just dont feel that they need it?
Imagine how borning and lame a party would be with no alcohol? lol

i honestly drink because everybody my age seems to do nothing but drink for an activity...

it doesn't seem like there's anything to do around my age besides hang out and drink....its actually pretty sad when i think about it

especially since a vast majority of my friends or bar mates really fuck up their lives and relationships around people by doing nothing but drink but i do honestly find myself asking in my mind what else is there to do but drink...i ask other people what else there is to do and all they say is drink (but then again we only hang out in the evening so there aren't too many activities outside of going to movies, play pool, or bowl in my area to do in the evening)

which brings me to a question...what do you guys do in the evening outside of anime, tv, video games, and drink? it seriously bothers me that i have nothing to do in life outside of drink lmao

Mine too, super dad wanted me to be just like him with the same alcoholism.

I think people drink because they either like the taste or because it takes the weight off being expected to act responsibly.
except when it's beer, that tastes horrible and I think people only enjoy it through acquired taste (peer pressure until they learn to like it)

The point in having alcoholic beverages can vary from person to person. In the end it comes down to what you're drinking. For some, Beer reacts differently in their system than, say, Vodka for example. Alcohol can also serve as a useful tool for people who suffer from problems like Social Anxiety. Alcohol basically removes a person's own inhibitions and allows them to act more freely than they normally would. Which is why some people party it up when they drink while others become more social when they drink. Like I said, it depends on what you drink and the effect varies from person to person.

That being said though, if you're waking up feeling hungover, you're not drinking right. Drinking water and eating starchy foods helps your body process the alcohol. Hangovers basically occur as a result of a combination of Alcohol Withdrawal and Dehydration.

My dad actually gave me a beer when I was little. I was curious about what it tasted like, so instead of giving me a sip, he gave me a whole beer, and I drank it, couldn't handle it, and got drunk. The funny thing is, I think that was the best thing he did for me, because even today I remember exactly how I felt after I drank it. I felt depressed, and I didn't want to do anything. I hated feeling like that.

So I never drank again.

I don't understand it either. To me, it's like smoking, or chewing tobacco, or anything else like that. We know it's harmful, so why do it?

I say that, but I don't eat very well myself, so I'm a hypocrite in that regard.

Not to undermine your reasoning for never drinking again or anything, but different drinks do different things.

Well, I don't drink anymore. It's just not tasteful. I do, on occasion, want a gin-tonic, but that's about it. I prefer weed and people who smoke weed over alcohol and people who drink alcohol these days, because weed, compared to alcohol isn't anti-social. Alcohol is, for lack of better words, anti-social personality disorder on a bottle; the more you drink, the more anti-social you become. It's unbelievable that it's legal and weed isn't. Shame I haven't been able to enjoy myself with some weed in years due to how it's illegal and I have no way of buying it.

Like most I started to drink because it seemed like an adult thing to do, by the time I was old enough to legally drink I knew how much would make me drunk and what my preference was in what I drank. Over all alcohol releases your inhibitions and when you go clubbing or to parties you can jump right in an not be a wallflower, controlling how much you drink keeps you from being a drunk and a nuisance to others while making a fool out of your self.and if you are a female you won't be prone to getting yourself into sticky situations. In truth it's no different than the reasons someone would try drugs.
