The title says it all, I'd like to know what are the best sad and/or love story animes out there. I like the sappy stuff, GIMMIE.

Jokes aside, I've enjoyed shows such as Toradora, Chuunibyo, Your Lie Before April, Guilty Crown, Wolf Girl and Black Prince, etc...

If you have a show to recommend, I ask that you provide a short synopsis of it, just so I get a general idea as to what exactly is the premise of the show. Please and thank you!

Basically anything that Visual Arts/Key has done is wallowing in sappiness (usually in a good way):
-- Kanon (2006)
-- Clannad
-- Angel Beats
-- Little Busters
(I haven't watched Charlotte yet, but I understand it's cut from the same cloth)

Other Sad/Emotional ones:
----------------------------
ef: Tale of Memories
Myself; Yourself
Anohana
Dusk Maiden of Amnesia
Nagi no Asukara
Kotoura-San
Please Teacher

If you'd prefer some sappy or happy ones:
----------------------------------
Kimi ni Todoke
Say "I Love You"
My Love Story
Aishiteruze Baby
Mysterious Girlfriend X
The World is Still Beautiful
Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu
Kimikiss: Pure Rouge

Saikano: The Last Love Song on This Little Planet (also named "She: The ultimate weapon") - a high school romance with a twist; Japan is at war with unknown forces and a certain high school girl has been fused with a weapon of mass destruction. The key plot line follows the lives of the girl and her boyfriend as her mind battles between her human emotions and the growing dominance of the weapon.

Plastic Memories - lifelike androids have been developed with human souls and emotions, but they have one significant flaw; after functioning for about 9 years the androids' memory banks are filled to capacity and a fatal error occurs in their programming. Human and android pairs are sent out by the manufacturer to collect androids that have reached the end of their lifespan. The series focuses on a new recruit to the collection team and his feelings for his android partner.

Listen to Me, Girls, I’m Your Father! - a college student is asked to babysit his three nieces while their parents go on a trip. Unfortunately the position ends up being for a much longer period than planned.

I've read the manga, I'm not sure whether to be happy or pissed.

When Marnie was There (movie) - you will cry.
The Princess and the Pilot (movie) - beautiful but sad.
The Pilot's Love Song (series) - follow up to The Princess and the Pilot. Still beautiful but sad.
Someday's Dreamers 1 and 2 (series) - 2 separate series both taking place in the same area/town with different characters. Very sad, especially SD2.
Valvrave the Liberator (series) - action-packed alien invasion/mecha series with a very sad romantic triangle.

Nana: Komatsu Nana moves to Tokyo, following after her boyfriend Shouji to gain a life she has always dreamed of. On a train bound for Tokyo, she meets Osaki Nana, the vocalist for the punk rock band "Blast," also moving to Tokyo to achieve her dreams of becoming a professional. Sharing the same name, the two of them perhaps through a twist of fate, ended up becoming flat mates in Tokyo, where together they support each other through each of their love lives and careers.

This might be 99% nostalgia but i really enjoyed Love Hina (it's harem but you know almost immediately which one he'll pick) it's not exactly sad but it's a fun Love/Hate/Harem/Hotel/School anime that i REALLY WISH CRUNCHY ROLL WOULD LET ME WATCH
