For a long time I used to think that Hitler was the cause of the Holocaust.

But now that I think of it with more maturity and experience, I think the conditions pre-WWII would've made the next figurehead do something horrible no matter who it was. Germany had been castrated, they wanted revenge, blahblah everyone had armies.

I mean, I think everyone has radical ideals to a certain extent. I mean, even here on CR, we've all read each other's responses that contain radical statements like: "we should kill anyone who deserves to win the Darwin award" or "why waste taxpayer money on X just shoot him -_-" or "<insert radical feminist thingy here>". You get what I'm saying. I think it's normal for everyone to have a radical ideal, because no one is normal... the idea of a normal person is a theory and a guideline, kind of like the "reasonable prude person" legal standard. No one is ever the RPP, but you're held to that standard.

I guess that's why democracy or some sort of checks-and-balances government is the best kind for humans. This way, no one person's radical ideals can just instantly become reality.

So pre-WWII Germany, any charismatic person could've become the next dictator. And chances are they had radical ideals that would lead to the murder of so many people. I mean, let's say you were dictator of Germany during pre-WWII. Could you really say that given your absolute power, you'd seriously not try to make your radical ideals a reality?

Killing Hitler wouldn't really solve anything. Someone else would just take his place. Maybe they wouldn't be as bad as Hitler, but they would inevitably help start WWII.

If I knew I could get away with it with no consequences other than the ones I make for myself.

That's pretty low. Most hitmen are in the few thousands range. As an amateur you'd at least want a few hundreds.

I agree, the conditions were ripe for war. But I disagree that the outcome would be the same as what Hitler and his buddies did. Yes, if I was in power, I would based my decisions on what I felt was best for my country and my people. I don't believe I would be as cruel as Hitler and his associates.

Hitler had a gift. The gift of speech. He had the ability to motivate people to do things that they would not normally would have done. He would have made a great motivational speaker if he had not turn to the dark side. His associates would not have gain power through another figurehead as they did with Hitler. They would not have been taken seriously.

In conclusion, eliminating Hitler would not have meant no war but with his terminiation, it would have eliminated so much loss of innocences that is associated with his rule.
